My mum was brought up with strict aunts as she was abandoned by her mother as a baby (long story and not very Christmassy). Anyway she is eighty in November, my dad is also eighty. Anyway she said a while back she had never had a stocking so my son and myself have decided on a Christmas stocking for each of them. We thought of sugar mice with string tails and 'wartime' type gifts as well as some ice grips for shoes that we got them earlier in the year. So thoughts......?
How about handkerchiefs? Or pocket tissues, as posted earlier www.dotcomgiftshop.com have lovely things including 'vintage' style pocket tissues.

Just got the Hawkins Bazaar catalogue in the post, they have a few pages of Christmas stuff towards the back, Christmas dominoes, puzzles etc, a really cool edible Chrsitmas card for dogs!
and lots of fab stocking fillers - am sure they will be on the website too so will have a look later, they do such cool things that you don't see anywhere else - there's a set of special 'squishy' Belgian chocolate that has something in it that makes it pliables to you c an make animals etc ...then eat it
they have the retro mugs like Clangers, Wombles etc with the sounds/music effects, they are showing as £5 each still but offer is 4 for £10, so may be useful retro gifts or for hampers - I think they were 2.00 each when they had their summer sale, so just in case anyone missed it it's a pretty good deal still.0 -

For dogs stockings (yes the dogs have stockings) I placed our annual Winter stock up on dog food the other day - we do this as the dogs are on a special diet and we ran out in bad weather before and they got upset tummys from the other stuff we had to use temporarily. Anyway we order from VetUK and I brought these
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-treats-ppi-rawhide-chews-c-601_906/ppi-rawhide-munchy-lollipops-p-6136
I got 6 (2 for each dog) it would have been more economical to buy the big bag but I didn't want to spend the extra as they only get them at Christmas lol.
Anyway they sell them for 55p at Pets at home (boycotting them) so if you are ordering anyway then this is a nice cheap treat
Mine will also get a charity shop or carboot teddy each (20-50p) and a new collar each from poundland.
The cat LOVES wrapping paper so in his stocking he is getting one tub of Dentabits (currently on offer at £1 in Tesco) and scrunched up old used wrapping paper.
I lost my two mice at the weekendthey died of old age.
My Guinea Pig I think needs to be entered into the Guiness book of world records, we lost 1 brother 1 years ago, the other brother this year and little zebedee is still hanging on in there bless him. He sleep a lot, I really don't expect him to be around for Winterbut if he is then he will get veg peelings and some sticks to chew up
The dogs in our house also ALWAYS have Christmas dinner, the fatty bits of meat we don't like a potato, veg and gravy LOL (no pigs in blankets though!!!)
What do you do for your pets?
In the past I have gone mad, I wont lie, my pets are my babies and they are spoilt rotten (oops) I last year spent about £40 on 3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 mice, 2 guinea pigs and 1 hamster!
I brought the pets at home ducks last year and my little shih tzu's tore them to shreds within 30 minutes :-O £16 down the drain just like that! I never brought a dog teddy ever again they have had carboot ones and charity shop ones ever since. (the cushelle koala freebie was jaspers favourite for months!).
This year I have cut down remarkably. should be no more than £7 total.Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -

Would it be cheeky to buy them tomorrow then if they go 3 for 2 return the original ones and get them on 3 for 2 instead?
I can't actually remember, though I have a vague recollection of people being caught out last year because the items they wanted were in the wrong department. You can check on the website which dept they are in though, and no probs taking things back. In fact last yr I had to take a few things back because people changed their minds. (Moral of the story - if someone asks you to buy something for them, get the cash first!)
Sorry about your mice Chirpychick. : (0 -
