several friends also felt the same way with house move, wedding, babies etc, our first child I so excited, but the first few days after we bought her home I was so disorientated and felt so guilty that I was crying instead of bouncing off the walls with excitement!! :rotfl: but it's a perfectly normal reaction to a big change, house moves can be the most difficult as it doesn't feel like 'yours' until youve been there a few days - things like using your own kettle, filling the fridge etc really helps, wierdly enough! the first few times you walk in, or walk down the road to your house it feels so odd but it really does settle very quickly, am sure you will be relly happy there, but if you feel weird, just tell yourself it's really normal and in a few days you will feel fine and excited
Thanks for this, it really helps hearing this! We popped over there last night and every time we go I feel a bit more comfortable there. The only problem was we bumped into some neighbours and they told us all about a troublesome family that live nearby, they don't sound great so that made us a bit more apprehensive but hopefully they won't bother us where we are. I know we will be fine there. A week after we move in we're going on holiday for 2 weeks, then after that i'm sure Christmas will be here in no time! I'm looking forward to having a new house to decorate at Christmas! :T
Hmm Hamilton is not having the best season!Although as a McLaren fan I am happy that Button is on pole. I am enjoying that it's such an unpredictable season - you never know where anyone is going to be on the grid after qualifying!

PrincessKitty29 - When we bought our house and moved in I didn't feel happy, I feel sick and worried and a bit pi@@ed off tbh. There was no real reason other than its a big change. I also had a similar reaction on my wedding day. Although I love my husband very much I didn't enjoy our wedding day at all. I found it all stressful and again I think it was such a big thing that it unsettled me. Anyway what I am trying to say is, it will pass and you will love the house soon
Thanks for this!I'm so happy to hear that other people felt like this, I was worried we'd made a huge mistake to start with! Now I can see it's a natural feeling. Hearing this is actually making me look forward to moving in more. I don't know how i'm going to feel on my wedding day, but I do get quite stressed by it sometimes. It's funny because even though my wedding is in March and not that far away, I spend more time Christmas planning than wedding planning! I think it's because at times wedding planning can feel quite stressful, whereas I never get stressed planning Christmas!

My Christmas organising plan for this week is:
- Make a list of household jobs that will need to be done between now and then. I walk from room to room and write down the first five things I can see that need to be taken care of (skirting board in hallway is coming up; sideboard is covered with paperwork, stuff like that)
- Talk to the family about last Christmas to find out what they liked and what they didn't to see if we need to do certain things differently
- Make a master household jobs list and a master gift list
- also take some of these jobs/to buys/to dos and put them on this week's to-do list
- Find out and mark on my calendar last posting days for international/European/domestic mailings
- Make a budget for gifts (done) and non-gifts (food, decorations, postage etc)
- Update addresses
- Tidy up my Christmas cupboard
- Decide on any events I'm hosting this year (cookie exchange, Postmas brunch)
- Start meal planning to clear out the freezer so I can fill it with made-ahead festive food and pre-made frozen meals for simplicity.
And a friend is coming over for a playdate this week and we're going to let the kids loose in the playroom and talk about Christmas together.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

I love this thread soooo much!
Sugarspun what is a cookie exchange or postmas brunch - ok I read that as postman's brunch!!!
Postmas makes more sense - when would you have it and who is it for ...
I've got to find out when the kids finish and when they are back officially as usually they tack an inset day on and I've not got leave booked.
Just checked out organised christmas - front porch is the first one - luckily nothing needs doing so a big tick on that one ;-)0 -
A cookie exchange I think is an American thing, I learned it from friends of mine. You invite a load of people over and bake 12 of your favourite cookies per person plus one plate for the party table, and all the guests do the same. Then you package your cookies on paper plates so each one has an equal number and everyone takes home one plate of each - so everyone has a huge stash of different Christmas cookies as well as a festive party.
Postmas is a tradition I started here. We live in Germany and lots of our friends are also expats, so the day after Christmas we have brunch at our house for anyone who's not gone away.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
