    get well soon.

lol at DD.... like when my 4yr old picked up value choccy mouses' in mr A and declared loudly "are these too expensive for us mummy?"

Have you tried the tesco everyday value chocolate mousses? My friend always comments on show nice they are when she pops round for a cuppa & naughty treat. (She's a coeliac so biscuits are a bad idea)
They're under 30p for a pack of four and taste really yummy.

Good news - have survived the family gathering! Not without the usual dramas and bickering (and a shock announcement!) but all in all, we had a lovely day. Some pics below - the gingerbread decorating station went down very well, even if most did end up more sweets than gingerbread!

I don't think there's much Christmassy on the TV either which isn't helping. The Radio Times this month didn't excite me at all!

Wow. That looked amazing. I am soooooooooo stealing this idea for any party I have. Well done.

  • Thanks for comments on the pics everyone. I made life easier on myself this year, rather than lots of separate dishes, I cooked a gammon in cola on Friday, slow-cooked some pork on Friday night and roasted a beef joint yesterday morning. Set up a big bowl of bread rolls and had a bit of a 'meat station' too! Hardly any dishes or fuss and it went down well.

The stripey mallow flump type things in the bowl were 'North Poles' which I got a big bag of in P*undland. They were individually wrapped for little treat bags I made for all the kids and I had some spare so cut them up for the decorating. They were really nice and a total bargain, I would recommend them! The silver trays were 5 for £1 in A*da and kept the mess to an absolute minimum. I made the first batch of gingerbread men but they proved so popular I was glad I bought a block of ready made gingerbread dough to have spare. It was really quick and easy to whip out and make another batch, tasted good too! Think that was £2 from A*da but I got it on 2 for £3 with a block of pastry.

Been to see my mum this morning. Very sad on one hand, she doesn't say much and doesn't recognise us but she seemed happy enough in herself. Took her presents in but left most of them for the staff to open with her on Christmas Day. I opened her PJs with her as she doesn't understand presents and the concept of unwrapping and she seemed pleased with them. You just feel an awful guilt all of the time - I felt relieved to leave after the time was dragging by but then felt guilty about that too! She seems happy and content at the moment but dementia is such a horrible illness. I know she wouldn't want to live like this. I don't think there's an easy answer but I do wish we (society) could give more thought to how people live out their final days and what is really too cruel for anyone to endure.

Anyway, back now for a little Christmas picnic (just some snacks in my living room!) and then I'll be doing my gravy/veg-prepping later and then it's PJs on!

PrincessKitty, hope your dad is OK, always a shock when things like that happen, especially to dads as love them or loathe them, they're always such strong figures in our lives. I hope he's doing better.

All my food shopping is done but nipped in to a shop to pick up some butter and some more naughty things like cookies and chocolate just fell in to my basket. The diet in January is going to be brutal - will have to be if I want to shift any more weight before my wedding!

I'll be here on and off throughout Christmas but hoping those of you who won't be, have a wonderful time and that everyone appreciates all of the love and time you've spent on making Christmas magical!

Is anyone bothering to do a Sunday roast today or just waiting until Christmas dinner? We're having sausages and risotto instead.

  • Cheese and onion pie here - dd's favouite!
Have spent the afternoon in the kitchen baking, pies, gingerbread, jam tarts and chocolate buns. Shattered now, so looking forward to a quiet evening.

Work tomorrow, doctor's surgery , hoping for a quiet day , but knowing it won't be!

    Take care everyone xxx
  • lol.
must admit I'm a Gordon fan first off, followed by Jamie and Nigella..... tho most recepies are too fancy for us I do like Rocky Road..........ohhhh might make that tomorrow.

never watched Nigel Slater but read his autobiography "toast" whicg was pretty good.

They made that into a one off tv show at Christmas a couple of years ago which I rather enjoyed! Haven't read the book though.

Hope Nanamia is OK. She hasn't been on here for a couple of days. It is unlike her. :(

I'm hoping she's just very busy with her Christmas prep!

We're having a roast dinner today and then we have our Christmas dinner on Christmas eve so again tomorrow! You can't stop my dad with his roasts, he loves them :)

Haven't been on for a while, just don't know where the time has gone! Big hugs to all those who need them, and hope everyone is better in time for the festivities.

I started my 2013 Christmas shopping today, my earliest yet! :T Matalan offered me 50% off all their sale stock as a preview before it launches on Boxing Day as a black reward card holder. Managed to spend a quick £34 but got well over £70 off stuff so very happy indeed.

Oh and my birthday is 22nd June :)

after 10 days my aches and pains have finally gone - just the cough and cold left!

I wrapped all the presents this morning and have spent the afternoon baking. I made cupcakes, swiss roll and mince pies (my first ever!). I will decorate the cupcakes and make up the yule log tomorrow.

I am now off to wrap the stocking presents so I don't have to do them tomorrow. This is good for me as usually I am wrapping on christmas eve evening.

We are having a roast dinner - it is Sunday and OH has to have a roast on Sunday but he does cook it so I can't complain. We are having goose on Christmas day.
