  • I haven't posted on this thread but have been lurking and just wanted to say how much you guys have helped my Christmas spirit (which had been sadly lacking). Despite many challenges and difficult situation and have stayed cheerful and festive.

Thanks for keeping me on track and providing some much needed festive cheer:)

I may well take you up on that. You see I have a very dark secret - we go off on holiday immediately after Christmas to the US for a few weeks and I always pick up my christmas cards, gift bags and various other things in the sales whilst there. Only hubby knows as I've always been slightly embarassed about shopping for next Christmas when most people are still enjoying this one.

Ah well. I'm out of the closet now:o

No need to be embarrassed on here. Some of us have already started for next year.

We will need to know about EVERYTHING you buy. With PICTURES. :D
  • Good news - have survived the family gathering! Not without the usual dramas and bickering (and a shock announcement!) but all in all, we had a lovely day. Some pics below - the gingerbread decorating station went down very well, even if most did end up more sweets than gingerbread!

My sore throat has worsened from all the chatting and repeatedly asking people what they want to drink, so I'm going to have a cup of tea and make sure my lists are all sorted for cooking/baking in the next couple of days. Have to fit in Arthur Christmas (OH made me a December hamper and this was the DVD) and a few films we've Steve-O'd (We are sad and call our TIVO Box 'Steve-O'!) so tomorrow after a visit to see my mum I think it's sofa, PJs, films and box of chocolates.:j

Christmas Eve will be spent finishing off prep for Christmas Day meal, afternoon tea with family and maybe a walk - but I say this every year and without fail it ends up being sofa, PJs, It's a Wonderful Life and a box of chocolates. (Can you see a pattern here?!)

OMO, I don't think you're lacking Christmas spirit, I just think you need to switch off and relax, you're so in to the planning you're seeking out the next 'to do' when you should be putting your feet up and being very self-indulgent! Easier said than done, I know.

I don't think there's much Christmassy on the TV either which isn't helping. The Radio Times this month didn't excite me at all!

Ha, I stand corrected! I have marked quite a few things (OH sets Steve-O, I haven't got the patience) including some of the things you've mentioned - Royle Family, hurrah! - but it felt like I wasn't marking as many things as usual. Mind, I'm probably comparing it to when I was about 11, and the whole Radio Times would be highlighted yellow!

I did use to watch a lot of cookery programmes but I've gone off them in recent years. They do talk some b*llocks! I like Nigel Slater but even he's a little bit creepy, I don't like it when he goes really quiet and slow, and does his food-sex voice. It's possible I'm over-thinking this a bit. :rotfl:
