OMO - I think there are going to be so many people all in the same boat. Was talking to my sister today and we were discussing next year and how we still need to tighten our belts. I shall definitely be trying to make more for next year and seeking out whatever bargains I can find throughout the year.
But not just for Christmas I think.
However, it is Christmas in 2 days time so let's all enjoy this year. When the new thread is up and running we can all keep each others spirits up.2015 £2 Saver #82

I ended up staying late at work today. We were really busy, with customers still ducking in under the shutters after we closed at 4pm. My manager told me just after 4pm [I was meant to finish at 4pm] that I had to stay until 5pm. In reality, it was around 5.15pm when I finally left! Knackered doesn't cut it. I've been in every day for over a week and am in need of a rest... No rest yet though, as I am back in tomorrow and my Mum wants me to help with the final 'top up' shop before Christmas in the morning before I head in... Oh, and I have to write 19 articles in the next three days [as he sent me more than he said he would]. Goodness when I'll fit them in - I might have to forgo some sleep lol...
I'm enjoying Mr Stink though.0 -
Mr stink was good wasn't it! enjoyed that..
OMO i know how you feel, we've had one heck of a year, redundancies, troubles with the stepchildren (which involved police, social services, mental health team etc) attempted abduction of my dd3.and dh depression coming back (not surprising really).. let alone other money troubles... But ya know what.. we've come through the year and not lost anyone! we're all mostly healthy and mostly happy.
Next year we shall be more money savvy.. last full year before the debts will all finally get cleared up the following six months. So looking forward to that. I'm not sure next year could be any worse than this year really. Hopefully it won't as this one has been so bloomin long lol.
On the more positive side... I've taken some wicked photos of the queen, olympic torch etc. and dd3 sang with the drifters and got tohold the torch too. AND my xmas ham is smelling delish atm! gonna go check on it lolTotally debt free wohooo 2014

will catch up tomorrow, just got back from mums, had a lovely time was great to get all the grandchildren together for her, and as always, she had put on a wonderful spread. She seems so happy in herself, i know she still has "down" moments, but her resiliance amazes me, and we are all making sure she is surrounded by love & support, as always.
got a 2 hr slot tomorrow when dh takes kids to the local family pub xmas party, so i can have a quick run round with hoover / mop, prep veg, get all pressies together into spare room, hide scavanger hunt clues, and lay table ready for the big meal!1
having a bit of a panic with regards to a few gifts ive got for dh, he's so hard to buy for, and a few of the pressies are very random, for instance, the drivers bag, spent £60 on a really good one (he works away mon-fri & has very long drives to & from) im hoping he will make use of it. also got some flavoured syrups for coffee, he is coffee mad but has always shyed away from anything out of the norm, again, i hope he will make use of them as i dont drink coffee!
cant believe it is almost here, a whole year of planning, and in less than 48 hours it will all be over :-(
incase i dont get chance tomorrow, i would like to wish each & everyone of you a wonderful christmas, and a very happy, healthy, & debt-free 2013 xIt's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -
For those not feeling it - b & q are selling their real trees for £1 and could go to 1p tomorrow, I brought one today came home transferred my decs from my white artificial one but added multicoloured fairy lights instead of bright white led ones and well it's totally transformed me I keep sitting looking and smiling at it all pretty and smelling wonderful and thinking of my childhood and the good days when I never realised how much stress my parents had at Christmas a time when life was simple for me - believe me it's totally calmed me down and made me feel a different person tonight all for the sake of a quid

Glad to hear your Mum is bearing up Pinkandfluffy, you sound like a loving family x
My OH is taking to the kids to the cinema to see Nativity 2 tomorrow. It gives me time to finish wrapping, cleaning and packing for leaving Xmas day for my Dads.
The kids are super excited. And so am I. Have loads planned for them getting back from the cinema in the afternoon.
But I keep getting sad moments as I remember Mum won't be there when we go down. It's going to be hard on Xmas day. But we are going to a hotel for dinner for the first time in years. So it might be better that's its totally different from the normal Christmas.
My Oh is lovely and has bought a Chinese lantern to let off tomorrow night with the kids as a way of saying merry Christmas to my Mum. Just a little thing, but I don't want them to forget her as she was always such a big part of our Christmases x:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

We went out for dinner the first Christmas without my dad and it was totally the right thing for us. Felt odd but not because he wasn't there, which was what we wanted to avoid. Instead it was odd just because we hadn't done it before!
It might sound silly but do you listen to music in the house? When cooking/cleaning or even during meals? I put a couple of songs on my iPod that remind me of my dad and whenever one comes on (I put it on random play) then it's just a lovely warm, happy feeling, like he's saying hello, stupid as that sounds! I did it because I used to hear one of his favourite songs at key moments after he died, for example in a taxi on the way to an interview - which I got! - and it's not a new or over-played song so always stands out when I hear it. I also put it on my Christmas mix and without fail for the last few years, it ALWAYS comes on during dinner and we all smile! It hardly ever comes on during the rest of the year and there's thousands of songs on my iPod. My dad would laugh his socks off at me thinking this is anything other than coincidence, but it still makes me smile
Sending you hugs anyway, it's always an awful loss but especially at Christmas. x0 -

Thanks for sharing this! It totally reminded me of the trees we used to have when I was little. I've got a bit fussy about my trees and your post (and the bit in Arthur Christmas that I've just watched, where he walks in and sees the tree in the little girl's house) have made me decide to ensure I have a tree dedicated to my childhood next year. OH is agreed! I'm now wondering if you can still get those plastic lantern version of coloured lights and those shiny foil baubles...0
