Did you hate that as a child ? Did you 2 presents or just a larger one ?
What i hated was the fact all my pressies were wrapped in christmas paper and i was told that ones a birthday gift and also my birthday cake was always a christmas cake with a "happy birthday" plastic sign near the christmas cake decorations, I HATE CHRISTMAS CAKE !!! when every year i complained about the cake i was told there was more then me in the house and everyone else liked it .
I think i just didnt like the fact my birthday always seemed to be an after thought , even now years later when ive spoke to my parents on the phone christmas day they usually forget to say happy birthday and often ring back later in the day when they remember.
My poor grandad's birthday is at the beginning of December (not even that close to Christmas!) but growing up, people never used to give him a present for his birthday and would say 'you're going to get a bigger present at Christmas!' he never did
My birthday is 5 days after Christmas. I like the fact that I will NEVER have to work on my birthday (I am a teacher) and that everywhere is still all Christmassy as, obviously, I love Christmas! However I don't like the fact that the two main present receiving occasions of the year are at the same time. It means if there are other things I need/want through the other 11 months I have to get them for myself or go without, rather than being able to wait until my birthday, like people can who have birthdays in the middle of the year.
Also, growing up, somehow the big extended family Christmas celebration ALWAYS used to fall on my birthday. I hated that because I never got to do anything specifically to celebrate my birthday on my birthday as we were always doing this Christmas party.0 -
Well it is 'fake Christmas Day' in my house today
We have OH's daughter here. She is going home tomorrow (just a flying visit) and we are doing Christmas today.
I am going to be spending most of it in the kitchen cooking Christmas dinner but I know OH will keep me well supplied with a glass of bubbly
I am slightly annoyed (but trying not to overreact) that OH's daughter has asked if they can go shopping today. It is supposed to be Christmas Day!reading between the lines, I think she hasn't got her mum a Christmas present. As far as I am concerned that is just not acceptable.....considering she had managed to sort out her boyfriend's present 2 months ago (she is 16). Plus, when we spent the weekend with her last weekend we dropped her in town on Sunday lunchtime (to meet her boyfriend), we gave her extra money to get her mum a present and told her in no uncertain times that she HAD to do it then as we wouldn't be going shopping this weekend. We brainstormed ideas of what she could buy, gave her the money, deposited her outside the shops, and told her this was her last chance to buy her mum a present. What more could we have done?! And now she wants OH to take her shopping today, which he REALLY doesn't want to do (we don't need anything else from the shops and our local town will be heaving and horrible. Plus, it is our Christmas Day! We want to spend it at home
)
Oops, I said I wouldn't overreact...it is hard being stepmum (almost - we get married in April!) sometimes as I have to bite my tongue enormously. So when I get the opportunity to rant it seems to all come out! Sorry0 -
not acceptable at all daisyg. stick to your guns.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0

oh no chickwiggle!
Fiesty Fidget wow! how lovely! so great that they appeciate you so much, what a great place to work! been at my place 15 years, absolutely nothing, we didnt even get our Christmas meal this year but I dont really expect anything from them in terms of appreciation, they see it that we get paid so thats enough LOL! Hope you enjot spending the vouchers, all that lovely Waitrose food!
Caitlyn what a kind, generous and thoughtful offer, you are a sweetheart. So What by Pink or something loud by Kelly Clarkson does it for me when somebody has upset me!
I walked to S'bury yesterday in the morning and it was heaving, may try and send hubby at closing time tomorrow!
Today Im waiting for the gas people to come back this morning as one of the the new radiators isnt heating up, so annoying when I thought I was done with all that rubbish and could shut the doors on the world for a few days! *growls* then Im making American pancakes, working this afternoon (thinking of the money, not cos they appeciate me doing it!) the this evening having a nice buffet tea and watching some Christmas films, along with some of the Jamie Oliver Christmas stuff ive recorded
tomorrow will send DH out for last minute fresh stuff, do a clean and tidy up (OMO I feel your pain!) and having drinks with friends.
Monday I have a couple of little jobs to do first thing, then take round last few gifts to friends and neighbours, get the turkey crown out the freezer, prep the veg etc. As soon as it starts to get dark will get the CE hampers out for the kids and OH, sort out the buffet and open the champers!sort out all the Christmas movies from about 12, make sure we know when Carols From Kings is on as have to see that, and have Norad Tracks Santa on all day of course!
If anyone is off this weekend to family an frienfs and won't be online, I hope you all have a very Happy and special Christmas and a wonderful happy, healthy and peaceful 2013, all those with new babies I hope you get some sleep and anyone who has been unwell I hope you feel better in time for Monday! xxxxxxxx0 -

I know, but I don't really have any guns to stick to as if she doesn't get to a shop today then her mum won't get a present which I think is worse. It's just really annoying that she can't even be bothered to sort out a present for her mum when she managed quite easily to get loads of presents for her boyfriend. Yes I know she is a teenager but actually I don't think that is an excuse for being so selfish, especially at Christmas0 -
daisyg I agree, not acceptable at all!0

not at all - shes 16 not 6... Her mum will see she got her boyf something but not her..... and yes she may be upset BUT she will more be angry at DSD.
have you got anything in a 'spare pressie box' you could give her/ wrap up for her???
Perhaps get her to write an apology/ IOU note and wrap up??loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -

Yeah if it was up to me we'd be providing a bottle of wine and some chocolates (don't have anything else going spare unfortunately) and her mum would know that was a last minute gift scrabbled together by us and would know what has happened. But of course it is not up to me....and I know OH will cave and take her to the shops. And he will probably pay for something too even after giving her extra money to buy a gift last week!
Oh well...I need to let go of my anger! I can just enjoy myself in the kitchen with lots of bubbly and Christmas music on, put on a Christmas movie to perch in front of while things are cooking and be relaxed and merry when they get back from the hell that will be our nearest town centre on the Saturday before Christmas...0 -
Uh oh I've woken up with a stinking cold and temperature...not good.
We braved the supermarket late last night and it was fairly quiet, but we have to brave town this morning as forgot DH brothers present - not looking forward to that
The roads round here are really flooded too and its pouring again, so not looking forward to a long drive today and not even sure if I'll get to see my mum tomorrow, if this rain continues.
Hope everyone is more prepared then me!0 -
