So sorry to hear about your Dad Sugarspun. It may difficult to spend time with him, but phone calls and Skype etc will still mean you get to chat and spend time together. I live over 5 hours away from my Mum, I'd love to of spent more time with her. But I called her every few days, and we skyped her to she could see the grand kids. Still good memories. Seeing all the houses decorated on my way to work this morning reminded me how close it is, and how different mine will be.
Am trying to stay positive as always, but I can feel myself getting more depressed by the minute.
You would think I would be getting used to it by now, but I don't seem to be.
Am going to concentrate on my stall this week, then see what next week brings.
I am new to the thread so don't know the background but just wanted to send hugs and best wishes. I can well imagine how difficult Christmas can be if you're not a fan because it is literally shoved down your throat everywhere you look. I hope you manage to keep busy and fight the depression. Be nice to yourself and maybe plan some fun non Christmassy things to help get you through?
Also...don't take this the wrong way...but, if Christmas is hard for you, doesn't this thread make it worse?0 -
Morning all!
Have spent the day so far decorating the office with lights and paper chains and a beautiful poinsettia, very festive! Am trying to stop thinking 'we need another decoration here and some more lights there...' though, don't want to go over the top!
Who am I kidding, the more decorations, the better! Will just have to try and excerise a little restraint when I walk past the pound shop later :rotfl:
Great pics as always guys, and looking forward to seeing more! I haven't made any more decorations, has to make a start on making some gifts or I'll run out of time!
Am planning on braving the shops after work now that the shopping centre is open for late night shopping. Hope it's not going to be too busy! Going to go and look at the jumpers in Primark (I want my Christmas jumper!!!) Also need gifts for 2 youngest nieces and want to try and pick up some little gifts for OHs stocking. That's all I've got left to get though, can't believe how organised I am this year!
Sending hugs and well wishes to all who need them xxCross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -
Thanks all - it means a lot.
I hope OMO's hard-as-nails daughter and weeclick, and everyone else with seasonal and nonseasonal ailments, feels better soon. OMO I had a tooth removed without anaesthetic because it had impacted so badly they couldn't get a needle into the flesh. I think your DD's a rockstar.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

I actually love the build up to Christmas. My ds has asd and does not cope well with change. Having a large tree and lots of decs stresses him to much, so we don't bother. The actual day is very low key as we need to keep it very normal.
When I was little Christmas day was a big family day, with everyone going to my grandparents in Christmas Eve. Then we got a pub and everyone came to us.
It is now just me, ds and dd.
In the build up I still get the excitement I used to, but as it get close, reality kicks in and I know it is not going to the day I want it to be.
It's is little like being fatherless and dreaming all year he is a knight then finding out in December he is a down and out. Then in Jan being told it was a mistake and he wasn't your Dad and the dream starts again.0 -
Ive lost my christmas spirit, I dont know where its gone,
last night I was all excited, but today there is just none.
I searched in my wardrobe, where I hide the presents,
but all I found there, was reminders of the money ive spent,
I looked beneath the christmas tree, that i put up last night,
nothing but a few pine needles, and the shining lights.
I went into the kitchen, surely my christmas spirit must be there,
but all i found, was the stockings hung with care.
I switched on my tv, a christmas movie would be the cure,
but alas, it was an old one, ive seen many times before.
With a frown on my face, i pulled on my coat and hat,
my christmas spirit is definatly gone, thats the end of that.
I walked upto the school gates, through carolers and snow,
my children run out to me, their eyes all a glow,
excitedly they chatter, about santa and his sleigh,
I nod and listen wearily, it will soon be christmas day.
At home we eat hot soup, and daddy comes home at last,
we snuggle on the sofa, daylight fading fast,
and as i glance over, at my family beside me, right there,
a wonderful feeling washes over me... so this is mychristmas cheer!!!It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -

Hi
Has anyone found any decent Christmas apps or games for the ipad,
There's so many and most are awful!
Thanks0 -
Thank you Princessfluffy, that made me smile and cry at the same time. It's sums exactly how I'm feeling just now. My heart aches at the loss of my Mum, but my kids are so excited about Christmas. I'm finding it hard to get into the spirit of things. But then I see just how much it means to them, and remember my happy childhood Cristmasses, I want them to remember theirs forever. Also made these up last week for 2 secret santas. They're 'Little bags of indulgence' and contain a bar of Asda extra special chocolate, either 2 Yankee candle tarts or a Yankee candle votive candle, a chocolate stirrer and sachet of hot chocolate.
And a pic of the Coca Cola truck last week just for good measure lol.
*SQUEEE!* those cheeses would be absolutely perfect for my cheese addict dad who ADORES the snowman film. Were they in the cheese fridge? Did I really just ask that? I mean normal cheese or festive cheese :rotfl:
I looked on the Asda website but couldn't find them, did find them on the creamery hawes website for £9 though
