14 or 16 would make no difference as you are still a minor in both cases. It used to the the cheque guarantee card (back in the day) that was the age dependent part because of its ability to make you overdrawn.

Saying that I did get a guarantee card and credit card from Natwest at 17 and they only realised their mistake about 2 days before my 18th birthday at which point they decided it wasnt worth doing anything about it.

Got the cheque guarantee card at 16 too :)

You failed to explain how you obtained a Orange Cash Card considering that you must be 16 years of age to apply; was this via lying on an application?
In other words, obtaining services by deception? Fraud.

Also, please understand if you have lied on the application and they don't fully verify your card, you can't top it up with your debit card, so looks like this could prove more hassle than convenience.

    :)

    How aggressive are you!!

FAILED, LYING, DECEPTION, FRAUD. in a single breath. Wouldn't like to hear what you have to say if the poster was an ACTUAL criminal.

Maybe it would be prudent of you to read the terms and conditions before hand

The only thing that strikes me is thats with contactless visa debit cards that are linked to current accounts the cards could be used offline.

Im not sure whether the banks would will willing to take the hit should the account holder go overdrawn as they are minors the bank can not take any action against them to recover the debt.

Unless the bank can do something to force contactless payments to check for authorisation.

Can't go overdrawn with a debit card. If there is not enough money in the account, the transaction fails. The only way to go overdrawn is if a direct debit fails and the bank issues a charge for that which will then make the account overdrawn and throw up another charge for the unauthorised overdraft.

I know that some banks will allow an account to go overdrawn but I'm guessing this will not be applied to under-18s.

I'm saying the OP is a troll.

Claiming they've ordered a PrePaid Orange card, when the terms state you have to be 16 years old or over; and Orange do carry out a quick check against the details you put in, to prevent Money Laundering, in which case if the OP lied it wouldn't of gone through without them requesting a proof of ID, see terms and conditions on their website.

There is nothing in the Orange Cash Terms and Conditions which state a minimum age nor any age whatsoever. Furthermore, the FAQ states that "anyone can get a card so long as they can verify an ID".

Unless you know different of course in which case, please post the link!

As I said, only if the bank allows it. They would be rather silly if they allow it for account holders who are aged under 18 even though the age at which debts can be recovered is 16.

Its not the bank though sometimes retailers do not process transactions straight away and the authorisation expires.

It is sometimes outside the banks control.

For example If you bought something that cost 100 euros today and for arguments sake it cost £82. The bank would reserve £82 from the account and you can spend the rest. Which you do.

However the exchange rate is applied on the day it is debited from your account not the date of the authorisation, and if the exchange rate changes, lets say its now going to cost £83 for 100 euros, you are now £1 overdrawn.

Lloyds probably won't give you a contactless card. I am 23 years old and I have requested one 4 times, each time they sent me a normal debit card. I even went through their complaints process, they gave me £100, and it got to the stage where they suggested I contact the FOS. With no explanation of why they would not give me a contactless card.

When I asked in branch none of them except the manager knew what it even was, but even she claimed that Lloyds were not issuing them yet. I said that's funny as their website says they do (which I showed her), to which she replied they are not in this area yet.

Barclays also would not give me one, even though when I opened the account I specifically asked if I would get one and they said yes. When I received the card and it was not contactless I went into the branch and they told me I was too young to have one, although they would not tell me how old I needed to be. So I closed the account immediately.
