Thank you for all your suggestions. Some of them really made me laugh, especially the wheelie bin suggestion from Pigpen. I think that could be a tactic with my youngest and messiest! I did once go into his bedroom with binbags and fill them up and put them in the attic about 2 years ago. Guess what? They are still there!
You ladies gave me heart and I did not clean up a thing for them tonight. I went to yoga instead. Their dad must have said something when he got in though as my DS2 came huffing into the kitchen with his dinner plates and cups just before bed. Hooray! Also know I need to be tougher and not pick anything up that belongs to them. I will try harder.
As for the housework I have decided to pick one thing off level one in the morning and then try another in the evening. Bit of a soft start I know but need to ease myself into a routine. I think that underneath it all I would love to be at home doing the baking and cleaning etc instead of at work, But hey ho, have too many financial commitments to give up altogether.
I'll let you know whether I complete my tasks tomorrow. And thanks for the support and hug.
Kind regards
Slowdown:)
PS Hey froddington, we're a bunch of Pompey fans too.0 -
macpep - you got mail
slowdown - I'm at work full time too so youre not alone. I have a 13 yr old messy DD and a tidy 19 yr old DS pretty much done for this year at uni. Oh and both kids are happy to 'play' with my Gtech sweeper on the wooden floors but neither is happy to get the hoover out. It only does half the job but better than nothing.
Right I am gone now as I have to be up at 6Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Just popping in to report that I have managed all of level 1 and one item of level 2 both yesterday today. Just a little chuffed.
I run a week behind and am a bit excited to see that checking your stock of birthday cards is a level 3 for me next week- job done I'm a Phoenix Trader got hundreds. :j
MMMMM just thinking about that, maybe my task should be finding a suitable storage space for my cards rather than the stack of boxes in the hall. Drat! just when I thought this flying was a doddle0 -
Oh Slowdown, I do empathise with you. My own bratlings are now 28, 26 & 21 and when they were younger they drove me nuts. BUT I did what Pigpen is suggesting (several times:rotfl:) and it works! I think the most spectacular was when I hurled all their junk out the landing window as they were coming up the road with their mates:T I am now going through it alllllllll over again with my stepchildren and Grandchildren. The only thing I can add to Pigpens advice would be to be consistant.0

Dustykitten - Birthday cards are a genius addition to the list, I always end up buying these at the last minute.
Slowdown - I'm also a married mother of 2 teens and work full time, isn't it wonderful:cool:. do try the binbags - I've done it twice and have never needed to do it again and it's been about 3 yrs, the key is to really throw it out no matter how valuable the things in there are, it's heartbreaking but once they know you will do it and more than once it's amazing how easy they find it to put things away! Don't try and do the lists on your own, everyone in our house does 2 things - the kids usually sweep a floor each and either fill or empty the dishwasher and put their own things away. We are now at the point where I'm the worst culprit - I collect paperwork but I'm shredding 10 things everyday and I'm winning:o
And because everyone mucks in, after a couple of weeks it only takes half an hour usually. hope that helps x
Pigpen - 10 kids!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Well we're all done - we had an hour and a half at the gym too and we're all showered, wm on, dw on, kitchen & bathroom S&S'd - so it must be time for bed.
sleep well everyone

Slowdown i really feel for you. I have 2 18 year olds (girl & boy twins), who were forever messing the place, I spent 17 years politely asking them to do stuff, but ended up doing it myself, until a year ago when i cracked and said im not doing it anymore, really wish id done it years ago, but was not emotionally strong enough, Laundry, i said they had to do their own, that was it. My son gave in after a week, and asked how to work the machine, my daughter lasted about 3 weeks, then screamed the house down, call yourself a mother, bleep bleep, etc, before giving in. I showed her how to break it up into washes and thats it. If they don't do it, they wear dirty clothes. Dishes, I said if they did not do the dishes, i would not cook for them. They refused and lived on instant noodles, biscuits, crisps for ages, while i sat eating the best food i could muster, they gave in and now do it all the time, it did take a while of arguments, but i stayed firm. f my kids were grounded, they did not cosy up in their rooms with playstations, laptops, it was nothing, no tv, nothing. Today i folded my daughters clothes for her, as i needed the racks and she said oh, thanks, like she'd won the lottery - i never got thanked once in the 17 years i had been doing it before. Stuff left around the house was put in their room, I personally would not throw it out, but maybe pretend i had, as i would only have to replace it. My daughters room is a pigsty by the way, she will tidy it when she wants clothes or money. I think missing your daughter and your husbands health problems will also take their toll, but if you stand your ground, they will do it if they have no other choice, and things will end up being easier. good luck and let us know what you do.
miasnanny omg i was laughing at that. I know that kids get embarrassed in front of their friends one time i sent my boys friends up to wait in his room till he got in - they were shocked and helped him tidy it, he was severely embarrassed and it ended up tidy, my daughter i threatened to post pictures on facebook, but could not do it0 -
Mrs Moneypenny did you really write " going to do DH"? Now I think these lists have gone toooo far:)
Pigpen oh my word you really do put me to shame. You practically have a class full of your own!! I don't know how you find time to read the lists never mind do them
I've managed another day of flying (pat self on back) But please don't let Mrs Moneypenny in charge of the lists who knows what she'd have us do
Few straggly bits to do but not a lot. Thank you all.
Macpep1 I think I'd have to have a quiet word, if you don't it's giving mr obnoxious the green light to treat you like that in future and it really is NOT acceptable! The secret of Christmas
It's not the things you do at Christmastime
But the Christmas things you do
All year through0 -
Macpep do you work for a large company? You might find that there is a company policy covering dependants illnesses. In my organisation I think (no kids so can't swear to it) that we get a couple of days a year for dependants illnesses which are paid and any further absences are unpaid. Your office may be the same. Could you ask to amend the absence to a holiday instead so you don't lose out financially?
