If you LIE or IMPLY that YOU forgot to get the clubcard points credited on your own purchases (using receipts that you have wombled) then you are obtaining money by deception.
Really, it's pathetic that people think it's legal OR MORAL to do this.
how are you obtaining money? they are points at no point do the points become money.0 -
startedsaving Quote from wikicrimeline:The 1968 Act provides that property shall be regarded as belonging to any person having possession or control of it, or having in it any propriety right or interest. If a person receives property from or on account of another and he is obliged to retain and deal with it in a particular way, the property still belongs to that other person. Property that has been abandoned cannot be stolen.
It's completely, 100%, irrelevant that a receipt has been abandoned. The receipt has no value. Wombling is purely and simply defrauding Tesco. How many times do I have to repeat the same thing, and how many times do womblers (or pro-womblers) have to keep repeating "the original purchaser didn't want the points" which is totally irrelevant? Womblers are not stealing from the original purchaser, they are defrauding Tesco.
SADIE If you find money or a coupon, it's up to you what to do with it. It's morally the property of the person who lost it, but if they won't reclaim it it's up to you. Whether you choose to give the 50p to charity or not is a separate decision from whether to keep it or attempt to return it to its owner.
And neither of them is relevant, in the slightest, to whether defrauding Tesco is acceptable or not.
I don't see how your "you have double standards" comment follows from the quote above it.
lindseykim13 Money/goods/services. Same difference. More from wikicrimeline with relevant bits in bold:In simple terms a person is guilty of fraud if they dishonestly, as defined in the judgement (Ghosh, R. v [1982] EWCA Crim 2 (05 April 1982),
(a) makes false representations; or
(b) fails to disclose information which he is under a legal duty to disclose; or
(c) fails to safeguard the financial interests or abuses their position; and intends,
(i) to make a gain for himself or another, or
(ii) to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.0 -

Yes, it does.
And in fact, using someone else's till receipt for points also constitutes theft.
The Theft Act 1968 defines theft as "A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it"
Property can be intangible, the definition in Sec 4(1)Property” includes money and all other property, real or personal, including things in action and other intangible property.
and defines "appropriates" as follows in Sec 3(1)“Appropriates”.
— (1) Any assumption by a person of the rights of an owner amounts to an appropriation, and this includes, where he has come by the property (innocently or not) without stealing it
So it's stealing, both the 50p and the Tesco points, so I suppose wombling comes down to your morals (do you believe stealing is bad) and whether you fear the (unlikely) chance of being caught.====0 -
So 'wombling' is a hideous crime and the people that actually littered the carparks are the victim. Yeah, right.
I had never heard of 'wombling' before tonight but I don't see why it should be an issue unless some people are taking the mickey with lots of receipts so Tesco will not add points at all.
As for 'messing' up the Clubcard data is it any different to people who buy things for other people? If I go to Tesco I often ask other people in the office if they want something.
People who use the points are not assulting others at knifepoint and demanding their receipt. I am also suprised that the blank pieces of paper can be compared to 'wombling'.0 -

If, like me, you travel a bit and visit several tesco's - why not 'forget' to use your clubcard at point of sale, get CS to add points, then if you get the receipt back unscored get another Mr T's CS to add the points again, this would work best for those larger shops or larger wombled receipts. would kind of put you off using your CC at the till.
morally wrong but hey who cares.Starting Debt - £44,667.64 :mad:DAS Started Jun 09 - Debt Free May 2018 :T0 -

There's a massive pile of litter outside the Tescos in Peterborough. I think there may be a receipt somewhere in there - and a till spit for 45pts if you spend 90p on Cat food.
Could some Womblers come and tidy it all up for me please?0 -
lindseykim13 wrote: »how are you obtaining money? they are points at no point do the points become money.
Well, that's not strictly true. All points are converted to vouchers every quarter and send to the card holder.ie you may get a £10 one and 2 £9 ones. They can be used off your shopping in store, so in effect they are like money, or if you're clever you'll convert them to deals for 4 times their value;)
But they are stikll discarde3d receipts that people dont want, and I am sure 99% of people Marky mark excluded would prefer for someone to benefit from their unwanted points
If I've ever had points coupons I wont use I'll give them away rather than see them go to wasteI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
