wombling in tesco - what's safe

sometimes if i have a coupon or offer for tescos or sainsburrys and i dont want to buy it, i pop it on the shelf next to the item, once i wanted a specific bottle of wine and someone else had done thi s right next to the bottle, and i used it , felt like a great idea to return the favour, feels rewarding. never use one with your clubcard number on though.
Like I say my teetotal mate sends me her wine club ones (with her number on it) and a lady at CS gave me her 400 pts one once:D
DS found a till spit for 250 pts when you buy CDs last week and I was buying now 69 so used it against thatI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -

Yes, is the simple answer to your question.
rwgray I am not sure what you are asking - yes is the answer, again.
I'll pick that scab a little more for you! I see you've changed your mind on the legality of money-off coupon wombling since April 2007 then? At least us wombles remain consistent.:D
To clarify, are you now honestly saying to me that you think that using a discarded '5p off a litre of petrol' money-off till slip is fraudulent, if it isn't yours? It's not a points bonus, it just gets you, say, £2 off the cost of filling up your car with petrol - and to use it you have to buy the petrol of course.
But in April 2007 you said this

You must be very blind in your inability to see the difference between things which are completely different.
A 50p off Daz coupon enables anyone holding it to get 50p off Daz. It's like a 50p coin, except that it's only eligible against Daz. Using a 50p coin you find, or a 50p off Daz coupon you find, is perfectly legal and there's nothing morally wrong about it either.
Wombling is completely different as it involves misleading, by implication or direct lying to, a Tesco member of staff that you are legitimately entitled to the Clubcard points you are claiming in respect of a purchase that you have made. Doing so with a receipt you found, which doesn't belong to you and doesn't evidence a purchase that you have personally made, is fraudulent - it's obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception.

Hah! Gotcha I think, my womble-bashing friend?
Or are you now going to try to explain to the 'blind womblers' on this thread, the legal difference between using a discarded petrol money-off coupon ('fraudulent' you say?) and a Daz money-off coupon ('perfectly legal')?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

LOL
I just put on 85 and 28 my son found last week.
he also found me a 34 points one from yesterday while there.
I do tend to look at who is on CS as I am walking out so I can assess if I've seen that person recently. if I have I'll leave it till next time.
I only put about 6 a week on so not too excessive and I put some onto my husbands, ie if I found 2 with the same date on Id put one on his and one on mineI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
I've never found any - they must be very tidy where I live.
(note to Discodee' s DD - unless the draught from the rotor blades blows them away?)
And what about computers for schools vouchers and Sainsbury's active kids vouchers?'Yaze whit yeh hive an ye'll niver wahnt'

I don't quite understand why coupon mad so misunderstands my earlier post.
The point there was that a 50p coin and a 50p Daz money-off coupon are both entitlements to whoever holds them, in the first case to that 50p and in the second case to 50p discount off a packet of Daz.
A Tesco receipt isn't an entitlement to anything. It's evidence of a purchase.
Tesco choose to allow the original purchaser to have Clubcard points retrospectively added in respect of that purchase. But it's not the receipt which gives them that entitlement - it's Tesco's policy. The receipt itself has no value. Someone else who picks up that receipt doesn't suddenly hold some value. All they can do is choose to use the receipt to defraud Tesco by falsely representing that they made the original purchase and "forgot" to use their Clubcard.
And say all you like about "I just ask them to credit the points. I don't say that it was actually me that bought the stuff". You know what you are doing when you hand over someone else's receipt and your clubcard.
Wow - I just typed that whole lot without referring back to the bit coupon mad is so proud to have found. And what do I find - my position's completely consistent with what it was a year ago. Surprise, surprise.
:rolleyes:0 -

I believe I am right in saying that using a 50p coin you find actually constitutes theft - dishonestly appropriating property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it. Personally speaking, I would feel worse about spending a coin that I found than I would about 'wombling' a discarded receipt. If you find a receipt on the ground or in a trolley its fair to assume it has been thrown away and was therefore unwanted, but I don't suppose you will see many people throwing away 50p coins.0 -

I wonder where you draw the line, what amount would you consider as too much for you to keep morally Mark?
