And for the record monsieur, I think what are you trying to achieve is great. It's not that easy for everyone to become a vegetarian or vegan, as some people can't get rid of their 'habit' or mindset. It took me ages to realise that a meal didn't actually have to have meat in it to make it a meal, if you see what I mean. I guess where I'd been brought up on a small holding with our own animals, our meals were always based around a type of meat.
It was the same for me when I became wheat intolerant, I couldn't imagine not being able to eat bread!:eek:Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Do you have any green smoothie recipes you fancy sharing? I've a bit of a lurgy atm and could do with a boost. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

Aww.. thanks so much!
I know exactly what you mean. I've also discovered I'm wheat intolerant. And I thought I was going to be able to live off loads of sprouted wheat loaves when transitioning to raw! Going raw's a bit like becoming used to life without wheat. Though if anyones is after cheaper bills from not cooking I can thoroughly recommend it
Now if my OH would go vegan instead of vegetarian it would make my life so much easier!“We are not interested in the fact that the brain has the consistency of cold porridge.” - Alan Turing (1912-1954)0 -
Wow where do I start with green smoothies?!
(bvvvvvvvvvvvn njjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjm the cat just did that.. thought I'd leave it in!!)
Seriously now..
Green Smoothie
100g raw baby leaf spinach (washed or you WILL break your teeth)
1 cup of water or juice
2 bananas (save those bruised ones for this as it makes it taste BETTER)
and anything else you fancy/have left (berries, mangoes, oranges, peaches, pears, agave, lettuce, medjool dates, vanilla)
Makes 1 pint glass full usually
Simply stick to about 2/3 fruit to 1/3 spinach to play it safe. Guaranteed it will NEVER taste the same each time and that makes it so much fun.
Today I had spinach, banana, mango, orange juice. Tasted like sherbet!! Some days I have huge amounts of spinach and others it tastes really bitter so need to bulk in more fruit.
Beware of using loads of apples in your smoothie as the pectin in apples can turn your smoothie into a pudding instead. That could be of course what you want to make. If that's what you fancy experimenting with then add an avocado. It makes it really thick you'll need a spoon!“We are not interested in the fact that the brain has the consistency of cold porridge.” - Alan Turing (1912-1954)0 -
I've got Jason Vale The Juice Master's book of smoothies - Ultimate Fast Food, which is excellent.Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Thanks Monsieur, I love spinach but have never got round to trying it in a smoothie. I'm just sipping a mango & apple (carton) with banana, blueberry, live soy yogart & rice milk with calcium. Hopefully it'll help sooth my dry throat and help fight this lurgy. Will have to send hubby out for spinach tomorrow.
Does anyone know if spinach is hard to grow? I like having my own lettuce in hanging baskets and would fancy doing my own organic spinach without the animal blood fertilizer.
Anyone else growing anything edible in the garden/window box's this summer? The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -

I'm not trying to justify cheese eating to be recategorised into Veganism. I know it's not 'allowed'.
Sorry I didn't think it was all going to be so hard to explain my situation. Maybe I should edit my first post and instead say 'eat cheese and feel like your going to die'. :rotfl:
Boy I REALLY feel like crap now.
Aww, don't worry about it monsieur. I turned veggie at age 11 and at the age of about 15 at Camelot with friends I had a hotdog. Why? No idea, I'd never even liked hotdogs when I did eat meat. It was a mistake and I certainly did not consider myself not-vegetarian because of that one mistake. My friends did think it funny to remind me of it whenever the subject came up for discussion but actually it reinforced why I became vegetarian in the first place.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
Im into juicing - bough a nice single augar juicer as the cheapo centrafugal thing I origianlly bought was a waste of time
http://www.juiceproducer.com/juicer_liveenzyme.htm
I found a great pick me up for a cold, flu
jucie or blend
half an onion
equal ginger
garlic
hot peppers if you have em
and cover with organic cider apple vinegar
make quite abit as it lasts for ages
I warn you now to sip it as it will make you dance around the kitchen
but as soon as I get a hint of a cold I make this and its gone usually next day
it opens up all the air waves.
A while back we did get a rather nasty flu thing running round the family and it was knocking em out for 2 weeks
Due to work I missed using this stuff & next day i was really ill - staright onto my bad chest
But I did make a small glass next day and although I sweated like crazy it was totally gone next day & I lost half a stone
I cant take the credit for it as its known as Dr Joe's health tonic
dr Joe is 100% vegan and has a free site showing how to fix almost anything with a plant based diet - check out the radio shows

Back to juicing
veg juices are great and i find the energy blast lasts much longer with veg -
beetroot, celery, ginger & carrot works well
the beetroot raw is very sweet and not what I thought it would be like.
cheers

Sounds great Gibby but I'm allergic to peppers and don't think my delicate tummy could cope with the rest! Hubby did make me some lovely onion & garlic soup, I'll have to get him to make me some more today. I don't think it's a cold for flu. I think it might be a chest infection that's going about atm. I've an appointment to see my doctor this afternoon so will get some inhalers. I'm asthmatic but only have to use them when I've a lurgy luckily. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0
