:lipsrseal :lipsrseal :lipsrseal now there's sommat to think about before dinner! I did have a friend who ate chicken & fish and claimed to be a vegetarian. Lovely girl but I used to give her a verbal kick up the @rse when she tried it in front of me

  • I'm quite surprised at your unsupportive response. I feel urged to comment further.

Then be what you where you want to be. Vegan isn't just about a diet to pick and choose what parts you want and what bits you don't.

I identify now as a Vegan. I ate 5 tiny bits of cheese recently that I did not enjoy. I couldn't help think of the suffering that animals have to go through to serve a glutenous population. I also shuddered at the huge volume of land, water and feed required to keep the animal alive (if it was lucky). I almost admitted myself to hospital due to the reaction my body went through I won't ever be doing it again.
No offense but you are no different from 'vegetarians' who have the odd bacon butty. It is misleading to the rest of society as to what veg*nism is about and causes difficulties for the rest of us who are veg*n to the core. I do not eat dairy because I cannot bring myself to support the suffering of animals that is enough of a reason to stop me from eating it for life.

    :rotfl:

Why start a sentence with 'no offence'? You must be quite clear what you are saying will cause offence? Just by adding that preface doesn't make it any less offensive. I will take issue about my scraps of organic cheese. As far as I'm aware the goat didn't die like the pig for the bacon obviously did! I commend you at your 'vegan to the core' mentality but feel there's an even greater issue in the mix here.

And that is one of PURITY. Some raw vegans would pull me up because I ate a piece of toast more than the cheese! I'm just confused why the reaction is not one of love and support and is instead received like I'm impure because of a 0.03% glitch.
While I can respect the changes you have made I have to disagree with your attitude towards eating dairy and calling yourself either raw or vegan, it isn't a part time gig. I think you'll find any definition of the term vegan will conflict with your self serving idea of it.

Well for a start if the cheese was unpasteurised then it would technically be raw. I personally think an example of how you responded to me does greater damage to Vegan PR than my transition. I truly don't wish to step on anyone's toes on this board so from now on I'll identify myself 98% Raw Vegan, 1.97% Vegan and 0.03% Vegetarian. It's got a real ring to it. :D

No the goat didn't but 99% of it's male kids born in the production of the cheese did.

If you're taking offense at the comparison try thinking of the offense you may cause with your 'I'm vegan who eats the odd bit of cheese' comment. If you don't believe me find a vegan forum and repeat your original post there and wait for their reaction. I don't imagine it'll be as polite as mine.

  • No I'm a vegan who made a mistake eating eating cheese!!!

I'm not one of those who you and the other posters are commenting on. I know some of those types too and it also confuses me where they got their dictionary definition. lol

I on the other hand am entirely aware of the differences between Asian Vegatarian, Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian/ Vegetarian, Vegan, Raw Vegan & Fruitarian.

I was originally just trying to explain my slip up and the physical pain I suffered because of it.

I thought you said you'd intentionally eaten the cheese?

  • Yes I did after much deliberation and I have felt all along that it was a HUGE mistake.

I'm not trying to justify cheese eating to be recategorised into Veganism. I know it's not 'allowed'.

Sorry I didn't think it was all going to be so hard to explain my situation. Maybe I should edit my first post and instead say 'eat cheese and feel like your going to die'. :rotfl:

Boy I REALLY feel like crap now.

Sorry if I've made you feel bad, but I hope you can see why vegans find it upsetting when someone gives the impression that it's acceptable for other vegans to eat cheese, even if it's 'occasionally'.

If you want to edit your post and remove comments of your badness ;) feel free and if you want I can remove reference to them from mine?

Perhaps you are lacking in protein or something when you feel the urge to partake of the cheese?

  • OMG Not the protein thing now too! (something only raw vegans might understand?) :rotfl:

I was greens I was after actually for calcium. ;)

  • OK here's a bit of technical stuff for those concerned I'm not getting enough protein here a calorific comparison of RAW spinach and a steak:

Go to this link and you'll see the nutritional data of raw spinach. Change the serving size to 100g. You'll see total calories is 23. What we want to find out is, of the total calories in spinach, how much is actually protein calories? So divide 100 by 23 (= 5.35 save this for a second). Protein has 4 calories. Multiply this (4) by the amount of protein in the spinach (3g). We end up with 12. Now multiply this by 5.35 and this is the total percentage of protein in 100 calories of spinach. This is of course... 64.2%!!

Here's the link for the steak. Change the serving size to 100g again and you'll see it's more calorific. So as this serving is closer to a divisor of 100 (ie the calories are 212 for 100g of steak) we can divide the 29 by 2.12 to calculate protein in 100 calories. This is 13.68g. Just multiply this by the amount of calories in protein (4) and we arrive with a surprisingly inferior.. 54.7% (you can of course do the same maths as the spinach above with a smaller portion of steak.. try the 28g if you think I'm coco-loco)

Read it and weep protein soothsayers! :j :D

The protein remark was nothing to do with you being raw, for all I knew you could have a rubbish diet.
