    how true, lol.

truly wasnt having a go at anyone - just want to make sure no-one ended up like me. The info is on the vegan society website, and it is a concern for vegans in britain becasue our soil is depleted of iodine.

I'm sure most vegans are nutitionally aware, particularly because of the internet, but if there are any that arent!!! then they do need to be aware of this.

you lot going to post some of your fav recipes then?

I do want to remind you all to pay particular attentiuon to your iodine intake!!! I was vegan for years, but due to not really understanding where to get alternative sources of iodine and other stuff ( pre internet days) I screwed my thryroid up. 8 stones gained since then!!! I wish I'd had access to some of the sites I have now.

so please ensure you are protecting yourselves. It doesnt always show up straight away - its more a longtern thing - but so easy to avoid if you are careful with your diet.

Thanks for this. I knew that food is a lot less nutritious than it was decades ago, but didn't know specifically about iodine.

Did anyone else see "50 Shocking Facts About Your Food" on channel 5 a couple of weeks ago? I couldn't believe that it takes EIGHT oranges or NINE tomatoes (or was it nine and ten?) grown today to have the same level of nutrients that ONE orange or ONE tomato had in the 1940s.

A very valid point pudding, some others may find it useful to know about the iodine and it is very important.

I use this supplement http://www.vegansociety.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=239 which is hopefully taking care of that for me.

Thanks so much gibby for that wonderfully helpful and detailed post, very thoughtful of you indeed :T

I seem to be developing a lurgy today so have upped the vitaC by sending hubby out for raspberries & blueberries for smoothies. I normally avoid fruit juices and try and just eat the fruit but have been sipping watered mango juice to keep the fluids up.

I'll have to try and gather enough energy to bake some more rye farls as I've run out. Going to sieve the roughage off the rye flour this time to see what the difference is in the texture and flavour.

Has anyone any idea what to do with the rougher grain that I won't use in the bread? I was thinking if I sieved the flour every time the bread would be lighter and maybe mix the left overs to make biscuits

It seems I might have a severe intolerance to wheat so need to find a good biscuit recipe... that's also yeast & oat free :o

Hubby has went out to gather the ingredients for garlic & onion soup which he's making me later to try and kick the germs up the butt, if it turns out well I'll post the recipe. If anyone has a good recipe feel free to post it

I didn't see that about the nutrients in modern food pandora  no wonder there's so much disease about these days I'm always giving off that the cr*p they put in the water and on the food is slowly killing us

Anyhooo enough of my ranting... welcome to the vegan thread everyone

  • I'm a Raw Vegan but I just went through a 2 week period of eating toast and corn chips. I've been raw since last May and only rarely eat cheese (especially goats cheese).

My toast/crisps binge ended today though as I was doubled over in pain from a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich. It was your worst hangover times 10.

I don't want to do that again soon!!

Hate to burst your bubble there monsieur epargnant but if you're eating cheese you're not vegan! Vegans do not eat any animal products at all.

Vegetarian but don't do milk. Well, only oat milk! I tried some booja booja chocolate at the weekend and it was scrummy so whatever I can reclaim on bank charges can go on chocolate...
