Also, how have Autotrader confirmed he is a trader? Have you seen this proof? Autotrader are governed by the Data Protection Act so cannot give you that information. They will pass it on to Trading Standards if requested but my understanding is they cannot confirm to you directly if he is a trader or not.
When OH called them last Friday Auto-Trader asked for the vehicle registration. As OH is now the registered keeper, they confirmed that the guy had a traders account. The guy then sent the details to Trading standards, but emailed us the original advert for the car we have purchased which states that he is a dealer.
The advert stated good working order, lots of extras and drives a dream etc:rotfl:To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0 -

As I said previously, the V888 form will tell you all previous keepers. You need to apply to the DVLA for this ASAP and it will cost you £5. See the link I posted prior for the form.0 -

Will it give me her phone number though as I already have her name and address and she was the 3 owner. She only acquired it in October last year which is a little weird.
Thanks for your help hun.

No, the rest of the digging is up to you, though you may find her through Facebook etc, or if she lives close enough pay her a visit?
From my understanding, if your seller advertised the car as 'driving like a dream' and 'in good working order' and it clearly doesn't then you need to be looking under breach of contract citing the misdescriptions act 1967.
If you can get the garage to put something on paper stating the problems with the car, and if possible their opinion on how long the car has suffered with these problems then its a bonus.
Go and see the previous owner, ask why she got rid of it. It may be that she knew it needed work that tallies with the issues you are having now, again get this in writing from her.
Build your case now, get everything in writing and dig as much as you can. Check the past MOT's for the vehicle online:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring/owningavehicle/mot/dg_10020539
Have a look what the advisories were, check the mileage tallies etc, even call the test center that did the last MOT. The smallest thing can lead to a result for you.0 -
Can I just ask, the letter you sent did you reject the vehicle?
If you are going to SCC you need to reject the vehicle, then do not use it. Whatever happens do not drive the vehicle. Store it somewhere safe and leave it.
It's a lot harder to convince a judge if you are still riding round in the car!0 -
Check all/any receipts (tyres/Kwikfit etc) in the glove compartment for previous owners details .. worked for me once and I rang the guy, got him at first attempt.0

The car hasn't moved off the drive since before we sent the letter. OH has been getting the bus and has got an Oyster card. We have had to pay for car tax yesterday as we didn't want to get in trouble for not taxing it.
Is that okay?
We stated in the letter that we wanted the car to be collected within the next 7 days with the money we paid for the car.To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0 -

Nothing there. There was a receipt for something from Halfords for £20 and thats it really.
Might have a look on Facebook? Is there any way to trace someone if you have address and name?

Well the guy has flat out refused any refund or repairs and was very nasty to OH. The guy on the phone said that we had done unauthorised repairs on the car with getting wheel bearings done as he's a trader. OH stated so you're now admitting to be a trader and he tried to back track! He's said to go through the courts as were not getting a penny from him.
Im so gutted and don't know what to do next. The work needs to be done whatever happens, but I don't know how we stand legally?
Does anyone know what the next steps are please?
Please help!!
