My DH isn't very happy at work either (teacher, v. stressful), but he understands he has responsibilities and would find it tricky to get another, particularly such a secure, job, with good benefits. I think you gave n excellent point about your eldest son & exams too. I hope you're ok chick, I really feel for you.

Sorry to hear your news, just as things look like they are going well, you get a big kick in the pants and are brought back down to earth. You feel like things will never get better, makes it worse when you haven't caused the problem.
Hope you have a much better day tomorrow.x
Definitely makes it worse when I haven't caused the problem and when the problem could have been avoided for just a while longerOh dear, DFW; don't know what to think about your DH's bombshell!
Really hope it's not an irreversible decision - or maybe could be put off for another year until DS1 has got through his next set of exams?
Certainly something that you and DH need to talk about, at length.
Hope you can think through your reasoning beforehand - and keep your temper!
Bah to late-paying tenant and back pain..
..Both of which hopefully will resolve themselves very soon.
(((hugs)))
I think the army have changed the rules to signing off, it used to be you had that year's notice to change your mind but I know of one of DH's friends who signed off a few months ago and was told that he should think carefully as once he'd done it there was no going back this time? It may be because he's signed off several times and they were sick of it or that they have indeed changed the rules? Guess we'll find out  keeping my temper is always the hard part:D I will try though :rotfl:

Unfortunately I am going to sit on the other side of the fence with regard to your DH - I can see exactly why he has done what he has
My DH has done the same time and time again and at the start it was the most annoying thing and I worried about how we would cope but then I realised that his mental health is so important.
I won't rabbit on about my DH too much but his mental health is so precarious that for me him leaving work is the lesser of the two evils - I would rather he was jobless at home than sectioned.
He has quit jobs for what I think are petty reasons (similar to your DH) and also he does not care about convenience and ease whereas I think an easy job that might be considered boring paid at £10 per hour is fine but he doesn't he would rather be busy and earn less money.
Luckily for us something has always cropped up for him so he has never been out of work for long and never needed to claim benefits.
I don't worry so much now as I work full time and we can nearly manage on just my wage.
One thing I do agree with is how selfish it is and he should have discussed it with you first.
Hopefully he will change his mind and if he doesn't you can private rent in the same town as DS1 school and leave DH be. If you are not working you can claim HB (up to a certain amount) as your house in Wales has no equity you will qualify.
I completely understand why you would say this and I feel quite bad for my reaction as not only have I been in the same situation BUT when a friend's husband signed off a few months back and she was making the same noises as me, I not only stood up for his decision but I told her what a blessing in disguise it could be :rotfl::rotfl: So WHY am I reacting like this :oEager_Elephant wrote: »Sorry should have said - are you taking your Agnus?

wow! What a difference a day can make.
I loved reading about your new part time work and your shoe bargains. And really hope you stay on here when you are debt free to encourage the likes of me who can feel discouraged sometimes.
Sorry to hear your DH's kneee jerk reaction at work. I thought that maybe if he knows you will be DF by Christmas he feels the pressure is off him to put up with a stinky job? And I agree with scottishspendaholic about teaching. Been there, got the stress related illnesses tooAlthough having been in the forces may give better preparation for teaching..
It may be possible to rent privately near to where you are living now so DS1 can finish his exams etc. If you are near where we are going for the wedding I can put you in touch with a local estate agentVery nice man
I hope your back is better soon. My ribs are still killing me so I understand your pain...... Hopefully you can get some stronger painkillers from the doctor.

Awww dfw it's a tricky one, frustration on both sides. Hopefully you will have chance to talk tonight and see if you can work something out together. You are so close to being DF and like you say if you can just stay put until DS1 finishes school.
Never a dull moment eh?!? (as my Nan would of said).

'Morning DFW, :hello:
..Your DH wants to swap an army career for teaching? Seriously?
A man with a short temper, impetuous to the point of making bad decisions sometimes when he's frustrated..
He's used to discipline, but how will he react to bolshy kids who aren't (and let's face it, unless he can secure a position at a public school he's pretty certain to face a few recalcitrant students in every year)?
Must say I'd been imagining your DH would be considering options where his military training could give him an advantage; either a job using the training he's had already,** or maybe the Police, Fire or Ambulance Service if the private security sector has no interest for him.
** In RL I know several ex-forces personnel. One was a chef; twenty years on he's got his own restaurant. Another was RAF ground crew; he's servicing civilian 'planes. Then there's a bloke who now makes a good living as a dog trainer. Another buys and restores guns (which he takes to the US - a very lucrative business - not that I approve of selling potential death, but some of the pieces he works on are beautiful; antique works of art that command very impressive prices from collectors).
Anyway, I hope you get the chance to talk together later - although it's perhaps more important that you should each listen to what the other has to say, without interrupting!
..Good Luck with that.
Wish you'd mentioned your desire for a bread-maker - got one sitting here in a box that's only seen the light of day twice! (Both times it was used, I got fed up with waiting for it - so removed the mix and knocked it up by hand, lol).0 -

Yep I really don't think he'll go down the teaching route once he's done a few weeks volunteering in oneI think he is in fact hoping that my dad will set him up a shop. Having been brought up with the family business I know it very well, however DH doesn't and this will require re-training in this area. Which depending on how well he picks it up can take from 3 months to 6 months to learn the basics  I expect i'd be drafted in to help with the running of it too which I don't mind, brings back lots of memories of my summers working underage for free in family shops

Haha I use this quote too :rotfl: never ever indeed a dull moment here :rotfl: and we're going out later I intend to use my womanly charms to coerce him into staying put a little longer 'Morning DFW, :hello:

As mentioned above I think really he would like to join my family business. I ran it years ago for my dad whilst he lived out in Spain. However my dad is not the best boss and we fell out and I gave it up and went back to uni....to retrain as a teacher :rotfl: which of course I haven't done!!DH was asked at work what he would like to do if he left as they help with re-training and he didn't really have a reply so they kind of pushed him towards teaching options I think ...but after a few conversations with my father lately DH is hoping to get a shop up and running I think. I have to be honest and say that I have tried to steer him away from this because of the problems I had before. However if we were to get one up and running and we be in charge of it as a sort of franchise I guess it wouldn't be all that bad  bills would get paid under my management and rates & suppliers etc. My dad loved the look of a red bill, i'm certain of it  As I say I have a lot of experience in this field, 3 uncles (one my late uncle) & my father all have the same businesses and do well from it and he set them up as he's the eldest and he's always promised to do the same for us :A so perhaps there is a silver lining.....however I would still like ds1 to finish school here, us move north and then do it as I don't want to be here forever

I just called SC! I couldn't wait any longer
All creditors have replied to the offers, all 5 that are still outstanding turned down the original offer of 58% (booooo) but most were only asking for a small % more :T I asked him to work out how much I would need to put towards this as they still hold over £3k of our money and the amount is £354.96 :j:j:j:j I will then have £645.04 left of the £1k we had put aside for counter offers to get the savings off to a start! I am super duper excited, debt freedom is so close I can taste it
He's calling back when he's spoken to the creditors and I will transfer the money straight across! I should then be able to cancel my DD for September meaning an extra £116 into the budget
