I've looked back at the quote you mentioned and I am right. The person you quoted referred to your "manager" and at no point did that person use the words "Just a sales assistant".The only person who referred to them that way was you.
You could have said the poster assumed I was a sales assistant but you chose to say "just" which is a word I hate.
I work with people (not in retail) who will refer to themselves as "just...a " and I always make a point of reminding them just how good at their job they are. I hate the word "just" it belittles people.0 -

Seen a different side to you on this thread sb based on your motoring posts I liked you and thought you made a lot of sense. Here you come across as totally different with a pathological dislike of primary teachers. :(Maybe you had an unhappy time at school?0 -

Mate I'm a teacher. We're always too bloody knackered to be thinking anything when we're not at work, trust me. Plus nobody is any better than anyone else. Don't think there are any teachers on this thread except me and I've got to go now since it is Monday tomorrow.0 -
I thought you were a youngster. That left handed business went out with the Victorians didn't it?0

I wear a suit collar and tie for work, though I'm not involved in retail.
Sometimes, on the way home from work, I pop into the local Waitrose if we've run out of something - usually bread, milk or something of that nature, and due to my attire it isn't unusual if I'm accosted by a customer who can't find a product, and presumes that I'm a shop manager.
Normally, if I know where it is, I just tell them and don't let on that I'm just another customer. A couple of years ago though, there was a very rude woman who asked where to find some obscure barbeque sauce.
Woman - "Where can I find xxx barbeque sauce, I've looked everywhere"
Me - "Sorry but I've no idea, I've never heard of it"
Woman - "Are you stupid or something"
Me - "Pardon, what are you talking about?"
Woman - "You're an idiot. Where is the barbeque section, or the sauces?"
Me- "I haven't a clue"
Woman - "I spend thousands of pounds a year in this shop, you are the most incompetent and unhelpful person I have ever come across"
Me - "Ok"
Woman - "I'll have your job for this, and why aren't you wearing a name badge? Tell me your name"
Me - "Are you really sure you want to do this"
Woman - "Of course I do, you're an idiot"
Me (producing ID to her) - "There you go - I'm Detective Inspector Johnson, Metropolitan Police, and this is my warrant card".
With this she turned crimson, immediately abandoned her shopping and ran out of the store. I looked sideways and noticed a young shelf stacker who had observed the conversation. Her smile made my day.0 -
Excellent - that really made me laugh. :T0

Having worked in retail for the last 19years I have come across some extremely rude and abusive people. While the majority of customers are lovely people you do get a few crazy ones from time to time.
Case in point....
A couple of years ago I was working in an independant coffee shop. We were extremely busy and only had myself and another member of staff on. A woman jumped the queue of about 30 people, butted in front and demanded to be served a cappuccino immediately. I politely pointed out to her that she needed to join the queue, she proceeded to spit foul mouthed abuse at me. I politely asked her again to join the queue to be served. The people who were next in line even offered to let her go in front of them ( they were American tourists) to which she spat at them and demanded her coffee now. I was about 6 months pregnant at the time and was starting to get a little worried as to where to was leading. She then launched herself over the counter at me to attack me at which point my other member of staff (who was almost 6 feet tall) jumped in front of me to stop her. The American couple managed to restrain her and the police were called. As they were leading her out in handcuffs she was screaming about how she was going to come back and get me.
This was probably the worst I've ever experienced. She also had 3 children with her at the time and I felt very very bad for the children who looked very frightened and shocked by the whole thing.
I've had food and hot drinks thrown at me in the past as well. Usually because they are onto quite what the customer wanted.
It used to really bother me but now just think they must be having a really awful day and I just happen to be the person who's around when they snap.0
