  • I've just messaged you via your facebook page Anthony. Hope you can finish off our application we're only waiting on the offer as the legal side is all done. We could move next week if the delay is sorted out. Told the delay is NW is a week behind. Should be a very simple mortgage so hope you can have a look.

    Much appreciated.

  • We're now in a desperate situation. We need to give notice tomorrow and still we haven't had our mortgage offer. We can't risk giving notice and not having an offer and if we don't give notice tomorrow the landlord is going to serve us notice as he wants a new longterm tenant and we can't committ to that just now.

We keep chasing and so does our IFA. We submit what they want and then takes days for them to even acknowledge they've got it let alone someone look at it.

It took me exactly 3 weeks to get the Nationwide offer, paperwork is coming out and should be received today or tomorrow.
This was done through a broker who chased a lot, offer came 2 days after valuation was completed.
New build so not sure if that makes things any simpler?!
Good luck....really hope you get your offer in time, it is a nerverwracking process!!xxx

I went into the local Nationwide branch and spent two hours going through my application four weeks ago. I have had a mortgage with them for years, never had an issue, I've supplied all of the details requested, signed all the relevant forms, and the loan to value amount is only around 40%, but it just seems to be dragging on. It's really annoying, and I'm going on holiday soon, so I need to verify it in the next few days now, or risk losing the house as they need a quick sale. What on earth are they doing? I have contacted the branch every day this week, but still no joy. I am now considering going to First Direct, but am really dissapointed that it's so painfully slow.
  • Reading all these messages doesn't bode well for me and my wife! Having spent 22 years in the Armed Forces we have to leave our Service provided house. We had our eyes on a new build house in a local development. I approached an IFA and explained out situation, that I am changing jobs, that my wife works as a bank nurse and that we intended to buy a house and had around 20 to 30% to put down as a deposit. He did some research as me changing jobs makes things a bit awkward (but not impossible). He spoke to various lenders and found Nationwide to be very helpful, he explained everything about our situation to an underwriter. The underwriter told him that our situation would be fine with Nationwide and that we should apply for the mortgage.

So, 16 June application made. Passed the credit scoring and an agreement in principle was issued. At this point my IFA submitted all the documents he felt Nationwide would require (Letters from my new employer stating the terms of my new job and salary, letters from the MOD pensions people giving details on that income, P60 from my wife plus last three pay statements, etc, etc.) hoping this would streamline the process. All looking good.

Having already spoke to the builder of the house we felt confident on paying the £500 deposit, we were told the missives would be sent within a week and would need to be signed by three weeks after receiving, which is very close to now! In the mean time Nationwide have not approved out mortgage, moreover, like many others, they keep asking for more information. I don't mind this as such but they ask for one thing, then it takes days for them to look at it only for them to say they need the next thing! Very frustrating! It's a shame they just can't ask for it all at once with a view to using what they need!

My wife and I are starting to stress big time! Not so much that we put £500 down as we were prepared to lose that, more that we might lose the lovely house that we so want! Our IFA has been working so hard behind the scenes to keep the ball rolling but a month after applying, and considering that Nationwide were approached before hand with out case details, we are really upset that we can't plan our departure from our Service house. I start my new job on Monday and as yet we have no home to move to!

Anthony, is there something you could do to investigate? As I say our IFA is doing his best but until we hear some news I really can't move forward with the missives.

I have today been phoned by Nationwide to say that it has been approved and that I should get written confirmation in a few days...phew, that is a relief! Thanks if anyone helped!
