Nationwide Mortgages - How long??

  • Applied in branch on 30/07/2012 to port current mortgage product. Hoping to complete house sale at end of September.

Found NW Mortgage Advisor really helpful at branch. Valuation was completed on 09/08/2012. I had signed up for text alert but haven't received any updates. I contacted the branch and understand valuation was okay and that application is not allocated to underwriter yet.

    Hope it's not too long.

Hi guys - we're just about to start this process with Nationwide, the surveyor is booked for Friday.

We're an existing customer so we are hoping this would be straightforward. What additional paperwork are they requesting from you? At the moment for us its latest P60, latest payslip and contacting the employer for proof of income. What else has cropped up when they have requested further info, be good to get everything in place from the off!
  • why would they ask your employer for proof of income of you have already proven your income with P60 and Payslips?

    Proof of deposit, perhaps?

Good question - so there seems to be a disconnect between what is advised on the phone, (we've gone direct) and what is subsequently requested in writing.

Their letter landed today, just requesting employer's reference for the wife, which they say they will do. Mine just says "no evidence found for applicant". Odd. Will send off everything anyway, can't imagine they wouldn't want proof.

I can't believe this is still going on!! we applied for a mortgage back in late december/early january - we were already a nationwide customer so were porting our existing mortgage and getting a top-up.

As everyone has said, the process initially was ok, but then nationwide kept asking for 1 piece of information at a time, taking days to process each document.

Easily the most stressful thing I have ever done, made me ill in the end. It's disgraceful they haven't sorted this out.

We applied for a mortgage with NW on 15th December and had the offer by 5th January - so about 2 weeks if you factor in office closure between Christmas and NY. We've just had to re-apply as our offer expired and our vendors have only just become proceedable and our broker has advised they are currently averaging 11 working days just for the application to be looked at and 18 working days from application to offer!

We got our letter! We applied, via a broker, at the end of June. And today, the postman arrived with the much awaited letter :D Offer valid for 6 months.
  • Just the thread I was searching for!

We applied 5 weeks ago through a broker for our mortgage. We have gone for an 85% LTV. Our valuation was done on the 26th July and was satisfactory. It has been 3 weeks since then with no word. Our broker claims they just have a backlog. They havent even looked at our bank statements yet that were handed over 4 weeks ago.

I am getting very worried that we will loose our house because of this. Everything else is ready to go and everyone in the chain is waiting for us.

Is this normal? I dont really know what else to do. I feel mean ringing our broker all the time when he says there is nothing else he can do.

I dont know what the hold up is. Our joint salary is 55 grand and we are only after a mortgage of 63 grand so in theory there shouldnt be a problem.

Maybe Im just stressing for no reason!! But we really cant wait much longer or we will loose the house!

    Sorry for the rant!!!
    Make £5 a day in May £51.05/£155
  • I applied for a Nationwide (remortgage) and didn't find any problems with speed (around 3-4 weeks from application to offer). I do already have a current account with them - not sure if that helped at all.
