Nope £280k would be perfectly sufficient for me. Could clear my debts, including mortgage and go back to living normally, plus enough to provide some help for some rather special friends as well.

    Congrats on the win

Great news on the lottery win, Be Lucky. Re ADF - it IS hard at first I'll be honest, but now it's become a way of life. On my fasting days I miss breakfast, have a 70 cal cuppa soup for lunch and fish and veg for supper. I drink loads of green tea which helps stave off the hunger pangs. On the non fasting days I eat sensibly but certainly don't deprive myself. I have found that as I get older I need to eat fewer calories otherwise middle age spread will taker over, and if I am honest I seldom eat because I'm hungry, it's more because it's meal time or cos I fancy something. I spend so much less on food than I used to, I simply buy what I know I am going to eat so nothing gets wasted. Loads of people noticed how much weight I'd lost when I first started and resolved to try ADF, yet afaik none of them have continued.

We in the west eat far more than we need to to sustain life, and when I feel hunger pangs when I am fasting I think of all the people in the world who feel like this all the time and take time to reflect on just how lucky I am that this is a choice for me.

As I said earlier, the weight loss is a happy side effect, I am hoping that the health benefits allow me to live a long and productive life, and live long enough to meet an enjoy my great grandchildren, which alas my parents did not do.

    Good Luck whatever you decide

Good points well made :T:T I often go without lunch on my weigh in day anyway, so with a bit of careful planning I could easily tweak days to do something similar to what you do Xx

Had a nice day today. Met my Mum, Grandma and Auntie at the cafe for the 1st time since before Xmas. Grandma gave me £10 :A and cafe cost £6.05 so £3.95 up! No other shopping today, so we have come in way under budget this week :T I didn't realise the farm shop was closed today which was disappointing as we drove past it on the way to the cafe. I'm desperate for eggs!

DH has had a very short fuse today though :(

Do you know, Be Lucky, whenever I read your diary and you mention your family you speak of them in such warm and loving terms, that I really do envy you. I am, of course, much older than you are, however I never really have had a close relationship with my family, immediate or extended. It's not that we don't get on, we just seemed to drift apart over the years and apart from OH and the kids I don't see any other family members from one year to the next. You are indeed very lucky to have them, and of course they you. I remember once you told us that your Granny gave you a fiver (I think it was) and you were so happy, and it must have made her very happy that this small gesture meant so much to you. I absolutely resolve to maintain my close relationship with my children, and I most certainly intend to play a big part in my grandchildren's lives for as long as I am able (assuming of course that the starving myself twice a week works and I live long and prosper lol). If you decide to give the fasting a go I will of course cheer you on.

    Dot xx
  • My family mean everything Dot, although there are of course ones who mean that little bit more!! My Grandma has always been my biggest fan and ally. She has 3 biological children, 2 adopted children and sadly lost more through miscarriage and still birth so she can speak through personal experience. She also knows what it's like raising a family on a shoestring budget and has really 'lived' life. She calls a spade a spade though and I feel sorry for anyone who ever gets on the wrong side of her!! She also gives backhanded compliments like today when she said "Pet that jumper makes you look bigger than you are, you aren't THAT big" :rotfl:. When I was growing up my sister needed a lot of attention (she is deaf after contracting meningitis) and my Grandma always made sure I got lots of attention from her so I didn't feel left out. :A

I'm more like my Auntie (the one that I was with today) than my Mum. Auntie also just takes on the load and runs with it in life, whereas my Mum lets things squash her immediately! Mum hasn't had an easy life by any means but she doesn't cope well and gets down very easily. I'm close with most of my cousins too and consider them among my best friends.

I don't see much of my Dad's side of the family as they don't live nearby, however I keep in contact with most of them and still consider us close.

Then of course there is my lovely Sister :A

Aw thank you Dot, you've made me realise again how lucky I am. I hope that you can start your own close knit family through your children and grandchildren from here on in Xx

its so nice to be that close with family, i am with all mine, even the MIL!!! if i dont speak with my mum, gran and sister everyday i dont feel right! we waffle on about anything and know every inch of each other lives but thats how we all like it. its lovely to hear there's others out there too.

well done on the tenner! all helps, i would be happy the £280k too, no mortgage, big family holiday and a bit put aside for the future, perfect x
  • Hi B-J-D, thanks for stopping by! Yes, £280k sounds awesome to me too! Enough to share around our lovely friends and family also :D

Just a quick update for me as I'm off to Beavers shortly. DH is coming as my helper this week and I'm hoping he enjoys it and wants to do it on a more regular basis, now I've lost my permanent helper. I really think it will give DH a boost to be doing something outside of the house. We would have to just judge how he was doing on the day though.

Took DS2 to softplay today to meet friends and their son which was nice, but the snow arrived while we were in there and made for not such a good drive to the shops then home afterwards!

Spent £35.68 in Mr A's and for a change I felt like we got lots for our money!!

  • Evening PLMBL,

Sounds like a fab idea getting Dh to help with Beavers. Could be just what he needs. Fingers Crossed it goes well.

I would be overjoyed if I won 280k :j. Just to be debt & mortgage free would be AMAZING. Winning millions brings with it a whole new set of issues, that I am not bothered about :)

Well done with the small grocery shop last week. I have gone £10 over this week. Its so hard on the weeks when everyone needs toiletries :o.

    xxx
  • Hi Steph, Beavers went well for DH :D We are doing the Air Activities badge at the minute so he had a good time making paper aeroplanes with the boys etc. They can be a rowdy bunch though so I'm glad they didn't scare him off!

Been to see the speech therapist for DS2 today and she doesn't see any major problems which is a relief! He's textbook for 3 apparently but she thinks he's actually very intelligent :D He can form the ends of his words well, it's just the sounds at the beginning that cause him a problem and he uses 'd' a lot (eg I want to go dome (home) in the dar (car)). We will go back in 6 months or so and if it is still an issue he will then be referred for sound therapy from September, as it's only for children who are in nursery or older. She says the way we are currently working with him is spot on so just to keep doing what we do. All positive stuff!

Car going for it's first MOT this afternoon! DH's best friend is taking it for us as he has a deal going with the garage owner and we will get it for £35 not £55 :T Got everything crossed it passes!
