Glad you had a good time with your DM. Enjoy your run on the beach, I felt a bit out of sorts when I woke up this morning and think it is all that rich excessive food and little exercise. It's disrupting my sleep too. Can't stomp up and down the stairs with OH here, he already thinks I'm barking mad. :D

He's off until the 7th and is constantly around, usually in the living room on the sofa.

Still we are going out in a mo, as I've decided to start embroidering as well as knitting. I think I can persuade him to leave the remote for long enough to buy me some silks.

  • Make sure he treats you to lots of nice things Granny. And make sure you take the stairs not the lifts in the shops. You can blame the 'stomp' on echoey stair wells! Xx

    Hello Be Lucky, :santa2:

Am glad to hear you had a lovely meal with your Mum, and better that numbers were a bit depleted than germs being passed around by guests who should have stayed in bed at home!

Be Lucky, you've written a couple of things recently that worry me a bit:
DH surfaced this morning at 10.30 am! The last thing he said before he went to sleep was I'll get up with the boys in the morning so you can have a lie in .......

...... so I finally got a lie in! Mind you, so did DH and he certainly didn't get up in the night!

Tbh I really don't think DH's sleep should be disturbed. Especially not so soon after a big seizure. It should help his recovery to allow him to wake up when he's ready, in a very relaxed environment [remember I suggested using some favourite music to help him emerge from sleep in a happy frame of mind?].

Hmm, think I'd tackle DS2's wakefulness in the night and early morning - then you and DH can both hope for a good night's rest.
    Is DS2 getting hungry?

My DS2 was an enormous baby who also didn't sleep through - long after all my mates' kids of the same age were doing so. Giving him an extra milk drink at night just made him wake up soggy, so MIL suggested banana muesli. That worked. A late supper of mashed banana with added oats [soaked in milk for a couple of hours] - fed to him while reading the bedtime story - stopped his 4am demand instantly. :D
..Might be worth a try? ;)
  • Robin, DH has never got up in the night with the boys pre or post accident, and I don't expect him to. I breastfed so I am used to being the one who gets up and to be honest I can probably do things better than DH could in the same situation, but he doesn't even hear DS2 shouting in the night so isn't disturbed. This may be due to the tablets or just that he never 'needs' to hear it.

I have not woken DH in the mornings since his seizure. I agree sleep is needed for recovery and I did not ask him to pre plan getting up and letting me lie in, he said it himself and I appreciated the thought even though I didn't think it would actually happen, which of course it didn't.

The fact is I'm shattered. I've been constantly on the go, stressing and worrying for weeks. The whole miscarriage thing is still taking it's toll and I'm still bleeding 12 weeks later. I feel down and a bit 'poor me' which isn't me and just want a bit R&R. I keep dreaming about lying on a hot sunny beach somewhere but to be honest, unless I was completely alone I wouldn't even get any rest then. And I wouldn't want to be alone. I love my family to bits, I'm just tired and need to give myself a shake Xx

plmbl Sorry I've not been around recently. It sounds to me as though you are absolutely shattered and need a lot more sleep to allow your body and mind to recover. You have said that DH needs sleep to recover but so do you. Can you catch up a bit when DH is up later? Or ask DM or MIL to take the boys and allow you to rest too. If not you could go to bed tonight when the boys go and sleep when they do.
When my four were little and DH was ill I sometimes unplugged the phone and slept when they all did. I felt guilty , as though I should be doing housework while they slept, but it was my GP said my body and mind needed repair just as much as everyone else.

I hope you can get CA. There will be an organisation that helps people to make claims. Here it is called DACE.

  • Thank you so much pooh! I will gather all my paperwork together and give them a call.

You are right I need an early night. It's a vicious circle though as i enjoy my evenings and feel I will miss out by going to bed early, but by not doing so I don't enjoy the next day as much as I should. Plus if DH isn't ready for bed I feel uneasy leaving him up on his own.

It's raining heavy here now so looks like soft play for us today not a walk on the beach. Shame, I think we would have all benefited from the fresh air.

Sorry; got the wrong end of the stick a bit.. Easily done when relying on a few sentences written down. :o

Aww, I guess DH can see how tired you are and wants to help..

(((hugs))). Right. Well, first off the bit I've bolded explains a lot - if your Hb wasn't low when you came out of hospital, it must be now. If you were in Spain you'd be getting the iron jabs (very painful but worth it). Shaking yourself won't work, but upping your Hb will give you more energy to cope (and make you feel better about most things ;)).

Unfortunately there's a long, expensive 'plane journey between you and any hot beach at this time of year, and insurance for your DH wouldn't be cheap (plus destinations must be restricted to those with good medical services).
But - you're doing so well on bringing down your debt, that maybe you could manage one more savings pot for 2013? Give it a few months and the hot beaches get much closer to the UK, and DH should be better in himself too.
It could be something to look forward to - an all-in package at a Mediterranean beach-side hotel, perhaps?
Start looking soon and there's plenty of :money: to be found. :)
  • Thanks Robin.

I've been toying with the idea of seeing the doctor and getting checked out, or buying some over the counter iron tablets. I need to make sure I don't go under as everything will collapse without me keeping it all together.

A holiday abroad would be fabulous but I really want to keep going with the debt repayment as much as possible and there are other barriers to us going away as you say. Perhaps I could manage a small UK break though if I put my mind to it. We haven't been abroad for 6 years, a year or two more won't hurt. Besides, DS1's passport has expired and DS2 has never had one so that would be added expense too Xx

Just wanted to pop in and say, ((((hugs)))) being a mummy to little ones is hard, I get shattered when I have DGDs over to stay for one night and wonder how on earth I coped when the lack of sleep was day after day. This is normal, without the added complications that you have had to deal with lately. So once again, ((((hugs)))), I wish I lived near you so I could pop around and do the odd early morning shift for you.
