Heh heh Satchmo, I love it that you feel so strongly you had to tell me twice :rotfl:. The meeting on Tuesday is for the whole committee and Leaders so not entirely appropriate to discuss infront of everyone. I promise everyone to corner him about it though.

I think the Carer's Centre woman was getting at the fact that Carers tend to lose themselves in the role, so whilst Beavers isn't exactly 'me' time, it's something else I do outside of Caring. I don't think she appreciated how stressful it is though.

    Morning,

In a previous post I have encouraged you to give up Beavers, as i understand the impact of voluntary roes. however, as an occupational therapist I can see where the carers Centre lady is coming from, an there is lots of evidence that outside interest away from carers and family roles, helps a persons stress levels and mental health.

If you were seeing me... I would still be suggesting giving up Beavers, as the voluntary role holds so much responsibility time, preparation etc.... And swapping it for something where you just turn up, be you, and smile, Zumba, a drink with mates etc. I also appreciate that perhaps Beavers doesn't financially cost you anything but petrol etc... You could point this out to the carers centre and ask her can she advise you on free fun activities to replace your voluntary role.

With awesome respect for everything you achieve, and your positive spirit .....

  • Thanks everyone!

Lilt, you made me smile with the juggling :rotfl:.

BM, very eloquently put, thank you. I know I don't need to explain to everyone on here, but just to put it into perspective I have Beavers tonight. I will be out just over an hour and a half but I've already spent time planning what we will do (making chocolate sparklers!), bought the stuff, researched Guy Fawkes, written a letter to the parents about the Remembrance Day Service, text parents of boys I want to be flag bearers and sourced badges that I need. Tomorrow night I have a meeting with the other Leaders that will be 8-9pm ish. Friday night we have the Rehearsal for Sunday which will take about an hour, and then Sunday the service itself. By next Monday I need to have planned next week's session too.....
All this for an unpaid voluntary position.

Sister's partner had her meeting at the hospital today and it seems a transplant is almost certain :(:(. Her heart is very weak and not responding as well as they'd hoped it would to the new medication. I'm gutted for them.

So sorry to hear about this.
