Lucky so sorry for your sister and partner, put everything into perspective, a friend of mine had a liver transplant ten years ago and is still doing well, I hope your sister's partner is as lucky.

On the beavers front I agree with everybody, quite often when you volunteer for something over time you realise how much has been put on you. I learnt this when I used to volunteer at my kids school.x

  • Awh I feel quite emotional so lord knows how you feel!

Your poor sister and her partner. I have everything crossed for a great outcome. I've signed up to the transplant list endless times. I hope there is a lucky match for her out there.

Your Beavers to do list rivals that of most teachers, and they are paid very well to do that. Jack it in and take up clubbercise, or zumba, or anything where as BubblesMum put so well you can be YOU and not think of anything else :)

Hugs... Looking out for new diary xx

I am really sorry to hear the news on your sister and partner. You must all be very upset. For me it puts all of our troubles into trivialities.

After having run beaver and guides, I would say give it up. You can always go back to it in the future when things get easier. When we were young it was older ladies and gents whose families had grown up. Now it seems to be the busiest people running these things. Do something just for you which you don't have to prepare for in advance.

  • Hi PLMBL,

Scary news about your sister and her partner, hopefully in a years time they will be through it and all sorted. Sending positive vibes to your family xxx

God heavens Lucky, that is ALOT of stuff to do for Beavers, it is amazing how much more than just the 1hr per week you have to do to get prepared.

Dd is in Brownies and they have their remembrance Parade this Sunday as well. I nearly got talked into training to become a leader earlier this year, but when I saw the three year training course needed for a volunteer position I ran for the hills :o.

I am afraid my lovely, that you are spreading yourself far too thinly. Like previous posters have said, you could spend that time actually doing something for yourself. I know that does not come naturally to you, but you need to make a big effort to find something you enjoy or relaxes you and do it at least once a week.

Be crazy, be a little selfish for once. Its about time :T:A

Sorry to hear the news about your sister and her partner, how awful for them. Luckily transplants are very successful nowadays and getting more commonplace. Still it's not an ideal scenario.

Looking forward to your new diary, hopefully it will be the start of better things coming your way.

  • Thanks everyone!

Gained 3lbs at fat class tonight :o. Safe to say I've eaten my way through all the worry and stress this week. It has to end now though or I'll be even more miserable.

Told the GSL tonight that I am only doing Beavers until Christmas. He thanked me for my help so far but then we were interrupted so the conversation is still unfinished. At least I've told him though.

Didn't sleep well last night, lots whizzing round in my head. Still haven't decided on a new diary title yet, but will start one as soon as I do and link to it on here. Xx

  • Looking forward to the new diary lucky and glad to hear you have 'given notice' on beavers, you've more than done your fair share. Just for info I work in transplant science and outcomes for heart transplants are very good these days. If she hasn't had any pregnancies or many blood transfusions she shouldn't have produced many antibodies so there is a good chance of finding a suitable donor.

Chin up love and wishing you an enjoyable November xx
  • Sorry to butt in but thought people might appreciate some cheap Xmas present ideas - have posted on Grabbit but not sure if people from your diary frequent it

Some decisions are worth the stress-busting comfort-munching.. ;)
Knowing you it'll just be temporary, dear Lucky. :)

    Well done! :T
Still leaves you with the commitment while trying to sort out your family Christmas though, so when you resume your conversation with GSL perhaps it would be worth mentioning that you'd appreciate your replacement starting at the beginning of December, because from then on you can only give the hour of preparation that was originally agreed when you took on the role?
Which would also help achieve a seamless transition for the group, of course.

Looking forward to New Diary! :D
Hardly surprising you didn't sleep well with everything churning around in your head.. Hope you can find half an hour or so to just stop, put your feet up and rest this afternoon. :)
Sorry to read Sister's partner is so unwell. Is she being pro-active? As Nicky says, transplant technology has advanced far enough to give great results these days, but while she's waiting for the call SP can help herself too with simple things like diet (is she veggie yet?). Read, research and take some control - banish the panic..
Sending positive vibes and very best wishes to Sister and Partner. (((hugs)))
