  • Sorry been a bit AWOL

First email should have told that guy all he needed to know. He obviously ignored it as it wasn't what he wanted to hear.

Agree with others; this is something you need to do for you. Your health and your family are your immediate priority and whilst it doesn't feel good letting them down, something will be done. That leader is just hoping that by ignoring the obvious he can bully/coerce you into staying.

Hugs :) well done on the weight loss and woop for the school cutting the cost for the trip!! :D:D:D they are probably worried that you will turn around and say that the premium should benefit those children it is paid towards!!! ;)

  • Well, I did say I thought Group Scout Leader was deliberately-on-purpose ignoring the context of your prior email. Now I see what you'd actually written - I know it. Bad man!

Great news on the school trip cost going down (for you) and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst it lasts.

And, no - you don't talk too much (re: coming up to 5,000 posts). We love hearing from you. xx

    Dear Group Scout Leader,

    Thank you for your reply.

Since I wrote to you last, it has become apparent that my health is at serious risk; I have been strongly advised to cut back on any activities which are not absolutely essential for the welfare of my family.

Therefore, it is with much regret I have to tell you that for the time being I can no longer continue to run Beavers; sadly, the next meeting on xxxxday ??th October must be my last.

Would you like me to hand out a letter to all the children's parents, asking whether anyone else can take on the role?

If my situation changes and I am in a position to volunteer again, I will contact you (perhaps in the New Year?).

    Yours Sincerely,

    Dear PLMBL,

Robin and others know me as a newbie on the diary threads and I have started to read yours with admiration...

I think Robins letter is spot on.

I was one of those people for thirty years volunteered and did things including cubs/scouts in my time.... When my health deteriorated late last year I battled to keep these going... School governor the most hectic one, until my body made the decision for me, and I was horizontal :o.

It took me a while but on reflection, it was a relief to step completely back and concentrate on me and my OH. I had lost my zest for life, and was battling to keep going. I understand that stopping is loosing a bit of you, but for now perhaps other parts of you need some loving care and attention.... If you truly miss it, they will welcome you back with open arms.

Go on, do it... Might be painful for a short time but what do they say no pain no gain...

    Take care :grouphug: Mrs B

  • You are all awesome :A. Thank you so much for your posts, I really appreciate them all. Welcome to my diary October Starter and Bubblesmum:D.

Tonight has been more mentally relaxing than usual but more physically demanding!! I underestimated how much DH and I work as a team in getting bed time/dishes etc all done :rotfl:. I'm looking forward to bed time, as long as I can get to sleep!

Today has indeed been a NSD. Number 4 for the month :T.

Robin, I was really disappointed with the soup :(. I'm part of a group with Mr T whereby they send you vouchers to test products for free, and then you evaluate them online. This time it was vouchers for winter vegetables, and I 'bought' a pack of root veggies (turnip, carrot, onion, parsnip) and thought I would make an old fashioned style broth. I grated all the vegetables (what a faff!) and added them along with some red lentils to some stock. I then used my secret ingredient - pease pudding - to give it the taste of 'Grandma's soup' from years ago where they used to soak the lentils overnight etc. Unfortunately the parsnip was really overpowering and apart from that it didn't taste as I expected. Not good.

    I can recommend the following soup though;

1 can of mixed bean salad (drained)
1 can of green lentils (drained)
    2 cans of chopped tomatoes
    1 can of baked beans
    1 or 2 leeks (chopped)
    1 large onion (diced)
    1 or 2 carrots (chopped)
    2 parsnips (diced)
1 pepper of any colour (chopped)
Fresh chillies or chilli flakes to taste.
    2 stock cubes
    Italian herbs and garlic
    salt & pepper
water -enough to cover all the ingredients

It makes masses and is very tasty. I leave mine chunky but it could be blended too, and it freezes well.

  • Good news on the school trip Lucky but I think the School are being a bit naughty with their Pupil Premium. It is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It's not intended to be used as part of the general school budget.

Anyhoo, I'm glad that you're going to get some benefit from it.

Please don't think you're 'admitting defeat' by giving up Beavers - you've done your time. It's someone else's turn now. You could still contribute - just not be being leader.

    Hope you slept well! :)
When he gets home, please do tell MrL how much you value his contribution to the household.. Am keeping all digits crossed and sending positive vibes; hoping MrL has a wonderful time without mishaps while he's away. And that he remembers the highlights to talk about later - he'll take lots of 'photos I expect?

You grated the raw veg?
 Thanks for the description, but think I agree - the above recipe is not destined to become a family favourite, lol.
My arms are too weak to consider grating anything harder than Chedder, and I'd consider putting parsnips in soup a waste when they taste so fantastic roasted (with a spray of olive oil to stop 'em sticking ;)).

Very interesting to read both your recipes - you put in so many ingredients which is wonderful, but complicates a meal I usually consider an 'easy option' when not feeling well enough to cook a 'proper' dinner.
    I can recommend the following soup though;

Thanks very much Lucky - this one I'll have a go at! :T
Need to modify it a bit; never heard of canned bean salad and not seen any tinned lentils here, and the parsnips - roasted in tiny cubes - will make great croutons! :D
  • Thanks for that clarification on the pupil premium Fortune! I don't feel as guilty for accepting their offer to pay for part of the trip now!!

Robin, it was the first time I'd grated the veg, but I had vague recollections of helping my (now deceased) Granny to grate veg and thought it would be nice. It wasn't!! If you are going to have a go at the other recipe, make sure you have plenty of loo roll in first :o.

DH made it through the first night in the tent without incident :j. Only one more night to go. I think I fell asleep about 12.30am and then DS2 woke up at 6.20am so I got just under 6 hours. 6 more would be good! I've had countless texts and photos/videos from DH. He is enjoying it and in all honesty I'm enjoying the break, but it's been good for us to be apart for a while to remind us that we do miss each other when we are not together. It's easy to focus on all the annoying things about each other when you are together 24/7, rather than the good things, and as Robin says, I'll be sure to point that out when he gets back.

The boys wanted to go swimming this morning. The main pool opened at 8.30am but we waited until just before 10am to go when, according to the website, the small pool opened too (much warmer!!). When we got there however, we were told that there are now aqua fit classes in the small pool from 10-11am so we could only use the big pool . We could have gone at 8.30am when it was quieter for that!! Nice lady on reception let me in for free as Carer though, even though we didn't have DH with us, so it only cost £1 each for the boys.

My boss has just asked me to do 2-8pm today instead of 4-7pm this week and next week. We have compromised at 2-7pm and I still get next week off. So, off to get ready and deposit the boys with MiL. Have a good Saturday everyone! Xx

Hi Lucky - I've made a slow cooker root veg stew/soup several times with the ingredients you got from Mr T. Soak some pearl barley overnight then chop up the root veg, add veg oxo, potato, tomato pur!e, cumin, herbs, paprika, whole grain mustard, some flour for thickening and water (plus any other bits and bobs) and cook all day in slow cooker. It tastes lovely and makes loads. Very filling too.

Glad Mr L is enjoying his weekend and that you are getting a break :)
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Sounds lovely SA, thank you. I'll give it a try Xx

Another lovely 6am wake up call from DS2 this morning. If he wasn't so utterly gorgeous I'd throttle him :p. I've heard from DH and he made it through the night ok. It's race day today so by the time they've watched all that and travelled home I wouldn't expect him much before Midnight, but (and I'm surprised to be saying this!!) I'm looking forward to having him home. My 'weekend off' has consisted of 2 very early starts, swimming, food shopping, entertaining the boys, a double shift at work, housework, ironing and worrying about DH!! If that's a weekend off I don't want another one :rotfl:.
