  • Coming out of lurkdom to say I second what Lilt says. Most men don't get the nuances of situations so you have to spell everything out to them and you need a rest and a holiday. I have my fingers crossed for you winning a two week spa break to Thailand...

  • Lucky,

Well done on the weight loss. Mind you, I think I've 'found' what you've lost :(

Maybe reply to the Beavers Leader along the lines of "I thought I was asking for help with my prior email". Its possible he did realise, but was hoping to avoid the issue.

You're almost up to 5,000 posts - time to start thinking of a new thread title.

Would you like a little help composing a stronger email to that chap?

    "Dear ...

My previous email was to alert you to the fact that you need to bring in a leader for the ... Beavers Group with immediate effect. I am unable to do so due to family health priorities.

Until recently, I enjoyed leading Beavers but health issues have urgent priority.

With best wishes for being able to arrange cover to enable the Group to continue.

    Yours

Cut and paste and don't think about it, just send it.

I was also wondering, have you done a cost/benefit analysis of your part time job?

    Hugs for you.

Yep, definitely agree your email has been misinterpreted. You need to go back to him and say that you can't do it right now.

    Try sending him this image

  • Ref the Beavers Leader, sounds like he didn't read very much into your email (although he is a man) - I have to ask, exactly how far did you go when you said to him you were struggling? Did you intimate that you were thinking of stopping or just that it was getting a bit too much.

I think, only you know what you said, and he is a man, so potentially he only read on the surface of what you wrote. Maybe try going back with a more detailed explanation of what you are feeling and ask if some other parent or volunteer could take the reins for a while, whilst you get yourself back on track xx

Hi all, thank you so much for you input once again.

I have included a bit of what I wrote in the original email below. To put it into context, he had emailed me first about some training that I need to do. I have also done some other training but apparently they have no record of it in the district.. I answered him about that and then added ....

"In all honesty <group scout leader>, I'm starting to struggle. It is taking up a lot of my time, and it certainly isn't the hour a week I was told it was when I took it on 2 years ago. In those 2 years <DH> has got worse not better and life is very challenging for me. In the last couple of weeks I thought I was going to have some sort of breakdown with the little one having chicken pox, <DH> having had 2 seizures, going to work, and then I had meetings and games nights to attend on top of all that. I appreciate that the training is important, but I'm not sure how I will fit everything in, or even if I am the right person for the job any more. I put a lot of effort in to planning etc for the colony meetings, yet it seems that the powers that be are only interested in what I do on a computer."

He literally replied with the fact that he doesn't want to lose me as a leader and if I need help then to ask.

I haven't replied to him yet.

Welcome out of lurkdom macpumpkin! I don't want to seem ungrateful, but is there any chance the trip could be to Florida or Mexico instead? :rotfl:

So sorry JAT, I hadn't realised I'd left my lbs lying around to be found :p. I'll be more careful with them next time, promise :D.

OMG, I had no clue I was nearly at 5k posts!!! I talk WAY too much

    Thanks for that Satchmo. Xx

I haven't done a cost/benefit analysis of my job. I earn around £20 per week which isn't a great deal, but it's £80 or so a month that we wouldn't have if I didn't do it. The biggest thing is that I then get 10% off my shopping though which usually nets me around £4 to £10 per week, depending on how much of my shopping I do there. More on the boys Christmas presents/ xbox games etc.

It doesn't cost me much in diesel to get to work as it isn't far and the uniform is supplied so no cost there either apart from washing. The main cost to me is stress, although I do enjoy the company of the girls I work with and it can sometimes be nice just to be 'Lucky', not just wife/carer/mum Xx

I think your next email to the Scout Leader should be your immediate resignation!
    Must use my stash up!
  • Just popping in Lucky to add my support. Were I in your position, I would walk away from Beavers. You and your family have to come first at the moment.

Your letter clearly indicates that you can't cope with the Beavers commitment on top of everything else and the response you received was pants frankly. It's a good indicator of the support you can expect to receive if you continue.

You've given 2 years of your time and enthusiasm to the job. That's enough. Let someone else pick up the slack now.
