  • Hi Lucky. You may already have looked into this, are the boys registered for free school meals? If so, the school will be paid a Pupil Premium from the Government for each child receiving FSMs. They have to show that the money is being spent on these children. Schools often use the money for things like extra teaching time or funding trips. Might be worth asking the School how their Pupil Premium is spent - Governors have to know to meet Ofsted requirements.

Cheers Mummy! If only it were like that every month!! Or better yet, if they'd paid out properly after DH's accident we would have been mortgage free anyway!!!.

Thanks Fortune. At the last school they were brilliant at paying for trips etc out of the fund, and he also had extra one to one tuition provided. He wasn't behind in any subject so this was used to enhance and improve his learning and prepare him for the type of work he will be doing at the new school. I did ring up the new school to ask about trips being paid for when he had a day trip a few weeks ago and was told no by the receptionist. We have a parents evening on Tuesday though so I will ask the teacher then what they do with the money from the premium. Good timing! Xx

Robin, to clarify, DH is going away with Best Mate (BM) not Paramedic Mate(PM), though I trust both equally. Although PM is medically trained, I know BM has DH's best interests at heart and will look after him for me. There will be plenty of medics around due to the race anyway, but when it was first discussed they were going to be sharing a tent which made me feel happier incase DH seizured through the night. Now they are having their own tents, albeit next to each other, and I'm worried a seizure would be undetected :(. The nights definitely worry me more than the days.

Ah sorry, my bad for mixing up PM and BM! :o
Might be worth asking MrL's OT whether s/he can 'prescribe' a seizure monitor, the type that straps on the wrist and alerts a pre-programmed 'phone number when it detects jerky movements and heart-rate changes.

Looks like there may be a cost involved if OT can't provide a monitor on the NHS, but isn't that exactly the kind of aid DLA is supposed to be used for?

I still reckon a dog would be more useful as it would warn of an impending event up to half an hour before seizure, whereas these electronic alarms still require the carer to react immediately, but it would still be an effective solution - so long as the carer doesn't sleep so deeply that they don't wake up when their mobile rings.

Can appreciate that a dog isn't a happy addition to every family, Lucky, but it would really help you long-term to find something which allows you to relax and sleep properly.. A seizure monitor could do that.
  • Thanks Robin, that made for very interesting reading and lots to think about. Apparently you only qualify for a seizure dog if you have more than 10 tonic clonic seizures per month, not including nocturnal ones though, so that rules Mr L out :(. Will look into the other things available though. Xx

plmbl I didn't search for Newcastle. I searched for a more local foundation. Apparently they are all over the North, maybe the South too and I didn't know about them when I lived there. I have a friend who is an expert on finding funding and she found our local education funds. We have two! They are usually old village funds from the old village schools which no longer exist. Have a look more locally to you. I will have another look and send you a pm.

  • Thank you again for looking Pooh, and for the PM :A.

This afternoon MiL offered to contribute half towards the school trip :j. We are very lucky to have her! Pressure lifted!

Work went fine tonight. As far as I know I made no c0ckup$ :rotfl:.

Off to bed soon. I'm feeling totally floored and exhausted again. Wondering if it's to do with Aunt Flo's visit?? Think it was this time last month that I decided to make a GP appointment. Hmmm.

  • Definitely the timing is spot on for feeling so exhausted again Lucky. This isn't exactly worthy nor does it have groundbreaking information but maybe you are only doing 1 or 2 of these things...

YAY to MiL. Pressure lifted indeed. She is lovely :)

  • Thanks for the info Lilt! I think I probably could eat more often and I could certainly drink more water! Cheers :A.

We were at a 4 year old's birthday party at 10am this morning! He's the son of my oldest school friend who, I suddenly came to realise, I've known about 25 years!! I feel old! I also went to school with her DH, it's so lovely they are still together.

This afternoon we went to the cinema to see the new Turtles film. It was ok but not as good as I thought it'd be. The boys enjoyed it though, including my Cousin's son who we took with us. I used the rest of the free tickets I'd got as a reward for scanning my shopping, and my Auntie provided snacks for the boys, so it was a total freebie. :T.

I told my group scout leader tonight (via email) that I am struggling. Will see what his reply is but I'm pleased I have admitted it.
