    Hi PLMBL

I'm just popping out of lurkdom to add my two pennies worth :D
I've been following your diary for quite a while now

I also think that you should knock the Beavers on the head.
You have been doing amazingly well for so long trying to keep all your balls in the air.
Something will have to give eventually. Better it be Beavers than anything else.

    Good luck
  • Hi Ammeretto :D. Thanks for coming out of lurkdom too. Who knew I was popular enough to have lurkers?!

I know you are all right (thank you Fortune and Knit Witch too) and you speak perfect sense, I just hate to admit defeat. Got to work on that before it all goes boobies up. Xx

"In all honesty <group scout leader>, I'm starting to struggle. It is taking up a lot of my time, and it certainly isn't the hour a week I was told it was when I took it on 2 years ago. In those 2 years <DH> has got worse not better and life is very challenging for me. In the last couple of weeks I thought I was going to have some sort of breakdown with the little one having chicken pox, <DH> having had 2 seizures, going to work, and then I had meetings and games nights to attend on top of all that. I appreciate that the training is important, but I'm not sure how I will fit everything in, or even if I am the right person for the job any more. I put a lot of effort in to planning etc for the colony meetings, yet it seems that the powers that be are only interested in what I do on a computer."

He literally replied with the fact that he doesn't want to lose me as a leader and if I need help then to ask.

I haven't replied to him yet.

    Dear Group Scout Leader,

    Thank you for your reply.

Since I wrote to you last, it has become apparent that my health is at serious risk; I have been strongly advised to cut back on any activities which are not absolutely essential for the welfare of my family.

Therefore, it is with much regret I have to tell you that for the time being I can no longer continue to run Beavers; sadly, the next meeting on xxxxday ??th October must be my last.

Would you like me to hand out a letter to all the children's parents, asking whether anyone else can take on the role?

If my situation changes and I am in a position to volunteer again, I will contact you (perhaps in the New Year?).

    Yours Sincerely,
  • Hi lucky, what robin said is completely right, you need to be strong! I think the email is worded perfectly and he has not riggle room that way!

Well done on the WEIGHT LOSS! you should be dead chuffed. Congrats.

  • Thank you both. I'm still struggling with making the final decision but I'm nearly there.

I'm currently sat in silence. On my own!!! DH left this morning with BM (trying not to worry too much) and both boys are at school. It's just soooooo quiet! Weird!

Talking of school, DS1's head of year called me yesterday in response to me asking the teacher about the pupil premium at Tuesday's parents evening. Apparently the money is spent on the school as a whole for things like iPads for classrooms etc, rather than on the child that qualifies for free school meals. I'm fine with that as I can understand wanting to help 30 children not just one, however she then went on to offer a reduced cost for the residential trip he is going on :j. I'm thrilled as it is now half the amount I thought I needed to find, and as MIL has offered to help it is now much more affordable. Very relieved!

Today should be a NSD. I've had a cup of tea with my neighbour and another friend at her house this morning. The rest of the day I plan to just relax and potter and make a pan of soup. DS1 is at a Cub Competition tonight but is being taken there and brought back, so DS2 and I will do something together in the house.

Yay to the school and MIL helping out, that will be a weight off your mind!
    Must use my stash up!
  • It certainly is Knit Witch! I can breathe again now!

I'm watching This Morning on plus one and there is a 16 year old lad who has been left brain damaged after a bicycle accident while not wearing a helmet. It just puts everything into perspective. DH has lots of problems but it could have been worse. Poor family Xx

  • Hi Lucky

I have to agree with everyone else and say that you and your family come before everything else. So if you need to let go of Beavers then do it. I know it must feel like you are letting people down but they will find someone else and if your situation changes you can always offer to help out again in the future.

I hope you are having a lovely day.

    October x

Hi Lucky - just caught up with you. I hope you decide to resign from Beavers. You don't need stress from a job you're not even getting paid for. Of course they'll try to persuade you to stay, I would imagine unpaid workers are hard to come by these days. You need to keep your paid job though, the money is handy and, like you say, you get to be you for a while and that's priceless. Good news about the school trip and the weight loss. Hope you're enjoying your peaceful day - make the most of it while you can.
