Well done on weight loss and glad you got your hair done.

OMG re MIL and the BMX, I'd be like this too

Those dye tablets are great, I used them when I was little as did my DC too. They definitely helped us to see where we were missing with the brush and made it important to give teeth a thorough clean, otherwise your mouth stays stained. Not a good look for school. Good news about DS2s teeth.

Glad you made OH see sense re the dentist x

Woo hoo 10lbs in 3 weeks is amazing, LUCKY, well done you. Is the gym helping you to lose do you think?

Hi Dot, the gym is definitely helping, not just for the burning of calories but also for the positive frame of mind. I think people can think one of two ways when going to the gym - 1) I can have this cream cake etc because I'll burn it off at the gym or 2) why have this cream cake etc and make all that hard work at the gym for nothing! Thankfully I'm the latter!

I find the calorie counters on the cardio machines a great motivator and add them up as I go around the different machines. I then try to better my totals from the previous visit, so for example if I did 500cals last time, I'd aim for 525 or 550 this time. It may not be an exact science but it works for me!

Granny, I'm foaming! I'm trying to see the positive in it that at least DH gets what he wants (he skipped out of here grinning like a Cheshire cat this morning with MIL) at I don't have to pay for it, but I can't help thinking:
£80 is a week and a half food shopping
£80 would get our bedroom and/or hall decorated
£80 is lots of day trips in half term which is week after next
£80 is lots of new clothes
£80 is £80 off the debts
£80 is almost 4 weeks of playgroup fees

I could go on and on.

Instead, £80 is a BMX

I'd be mad too! That's seriously frustrating. Money is tight and people should be making every penny count! Ok to a treat now and again, yes, but £80?? BMX?! :( I guess some people have different priorities :(

:T Fantastic work on the weight loss!! Very well done :D

And I like your thinking for the cream cake/gym ;) I'd be like you too - either Zumba or a workout dvd, then that evening I'll refuse the junk food so I don't undo any of the good that the exercise did!! :rotfl:

So pleased to hear all went well with the scan.

You do so amazingly well, all things considered, stop being so hard on yourself. I am really glad you told your mum that you arent actully "fine" after all. Its always tough to admit these things out loud I find. Theres no shame it not finding things easy all of the time .
As far as the gym goes, I would train my backside off so that I could then have a glass of Vino in the evening !

Sorry Be Lucky, but I think you could look at this from another angle.

First, DH is not taking £80 out of your budget. It is a gift from his Mum - she's watched her baby go through a terrible experience only you know the full details of, and now she wants to do something nice for him - please let her!

I actually think it's a pretty good choice. DH is improving on the correct dose of meds, but his mood is still low; cycling will not only cheer him up - because he wants to do it - but also help with balance, concentration, multi-tasking - think of all the skills it takes to ride a bike! And he'll get out in the fresh air while riding it which frankly is better exercise than going to the gym (though that's great too - you got a good deal there, Be Lucky ;)).

Presumably the consultant has ok'd this activity? (Has it occurred to MIL that DH will need a decent helmet? - Be Lucky before the thought depresses you further re your budget please put it on hold. Will pm you shortly but must do a couple of RL jobs first :o).

Thank you everyone! I took it out on the treadmill at the gym and I feel better about it now. Granny your funny is spot on :rotfl::rotfl:.

Robin, you have a valid point and I do know it's not my £80, however it does throw up some further issues
    1) No helmet. It hasn't even been considered. I don't know whether MIL is paying for one, I'm paying for one or if he is even planning to wear one
    2) It transpires that MIL did not 'offer', DH asked her. This means that a) she's the good guy and I'm the wicked witch and b) DH hasn't learned what no means
    3) If DH was willing to ask MIL for £80 and MIL was willing to give him £80 then we could have done something else with it (I realise this makes me sound ridiculous!).
    4) MOST IMPORTANTLY I don't have a bike (nor can I ride one :o) so when DH is out on it he will be mainly out alone which makes me

Regardless, the bike is here, DH is happy as a pig in shizzle and I didn't pay for it so onwards and upwards Xx

As usual, wise words from Robin, Lucky. I too can see both points of view, and have come up with a cunning plan! Why don't you see if you can buy a cheap bike for yourself and you can join him when he rides out? I know that money is very tight, but you did agree (I think) with us recently that it was about time you gave yourself a little treat now and again. Mr Dot is a real cyclist - posh bike, the kit, trains, cycles from coast to coast and all that, so last year I decided I would see what all the fuss was about. He arranged to buy a bike from his friend which his daughter had outgrown - lovely - except that it had pink glitter on it and he didn't tell me that said daughter was 11:rotfl: Nontheless I duly had a go, and let me assure you, Lucky, it was the most intense exercise I had undertaken for years, and I am quite fit for an old bird (my bottom hurt like mad for days afterwards as well).

So, you could consider buying (and learning to ride of course) a bike and off you both go - MIL will, I am sure, look after the kids for
a while and just watch the weight fall off.

There you are, a nice balanced view (pardon the pun) from you helpful mse friends one and all:T
