When I asked for luck I didn't mean the bad variety!!!

Hi Lucky
I'd be mad as h*ll too, esp if no helmet was included in the deal, what is MIL thinking of. She nearly lost her DS in the accident, so yes she's dealing with the fallout but really, I'd be surprised if DH's balance is ready for cycling yet.
Yes, look out on freecycle (how appropriate) for a bike for yourself and try it out... or borrow a bike for a fortnight and ask DH to teach you to ride. I didn't learn until I was 50, so it's never too late (except that I'm still terrified).
I'd be mad about the money, too, esp that DH asked MIL after hearing that there's only money for NEED items, that's really very sneaky and childish. What would he say if one of the children was told no by him and sneaked off to you and got what they wanted (or vice versa)? Is he able to grasp the financial situation you are in? Sorry, I don't mean that to be condescending, but I'm not sure how much of what you say he can retain.
Hugs for you, and well done on taking it out on the treadmill. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Dot and satchmo you are both right, I should learn to ride a bike and get out with him! We were poor when I was little (I'm only just beginning to realise how poor!) and it was a choice between rollerskates or a bike and I chose the skates. The older I've got the more scared I've got of learning (or falling off/hurting myself/making a show of myself to be precise!), but it's about time I got on with it!I'd be mad about the money, too, esp that DH asked MIL after hearing that there's only money for NEED items, that's really very sneaky and childish. Satchmo you've summed it up perfectly why I was so mad about the whole thing. It was like what he wanted was all that mattered. I thought he understood the situation but it seems not. I'm not entirely sure if he did know and has forgotten, has chosen to ignore it and just put himself first or just genuinely didn't think. It's all my fault anyway as I've always made sure he could have whatever he wanted and I dealt with the aftermath. The problem is that was usually on credit so I'm still paying for all the things he's had before. I'm going to have to do what Robin says and just see the positive in the whole thing and move on for my own sanity.Debts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Hey, Lucky, I think you and me are spookily alike. I too came from a cash-poor/love-rich family, and I can remember being mad at my brothers cos they wouldn't make me a bike from salvaged parts (they'd made their own). I had skates, and would skate round the block like a whirling dervish - or lend one to my best friend and we'd go paddling along, a bit like scootering (if you can picture that). I wish I lived nearer, I could lend you my bike and helmet for a while.
Many local authorities have free adult bike lessons, like the road safety lessons for school kids. It'd be worth checking with them. I paid for two lessons, but they were dearer than driving lessons(??).What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Hi plmbl,
Great news on your cheap haircut. Mine was done by an trainee last time I had it done and she did the same to me . Made it frizzy, straightened it and when I went outside it went into ringlets
Your DH sounds so like mine was. When he was ill a few years ago he would want and get things we couldn't really afford. Now he knows the score exactly and says he feels bad about wasting money. I am sure it was to do with the drugs or else that during the depressed stae he occasionally had a 'high' when he had random ideas and wanted to do things. I gave in to things he wanted because I wanted him to be happy.
I would look at the bike purchase by MIL as a nice thought for her son who she wants to be happy, but I would make sure he has a helmet and that the consultant knows what he is doing.
When DS2 had his bike accident (on a pushbike) he was told not to do anything that might mean he knocked his head for about 6 months and he wasn't as badly injured as your DH.
I really hope it all turns out well for him and that he enjoys it but stays safe. You can tell him DS2 is only alive because he was wearing a helmet and the accident was not on a road but on a forest track.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Satchmo we do sound similar! I did the same thing with my skates! I lived at the top of a hill and went whooshing down and then convinced my friend to have one each while we climbed our way back up again :rotfl:.
Pooh I didn't realise your DS2 had had a bike accidentI'm glad he was ok! We are organising a helmet for DH - some things take priority no matter what the money situation is! I have, however, had another chat with DH about our finances after he started talking about improvements he wanted to make to the bike . I think I've got through to him now!
I'm feeling more positive today! Little things keep reminding me of how lucky I am - the kindness of others, seeing those less fortunate than I am face adversity and my DS2 announcing "Mummy I love you sooooooo much" to name a few.As satchmo says, I might be cash poor but I'm love rich! Someone put on facebook earlier "When you rise in life, your friends know who you are. When you fall down, you know who your friends are". Couldn't have put it better myself! Thank you everyone Xx

Hi PLMBL,
I can TOTALLY sympathise with your issue with the BMX.
As you probably know I have had similar issues with my Dh wanting a Shotgun.
I have WANTS but I give them up because of the debts.
Hubby has WANTS and he find someway/anyway to get them:mad:
At least your hubbys bike is £80, my hubbys shotgun is £800
Not trying to out-do you or anything, but at least its a small want:o.
So frustrating......Just when we think they are getting the idea that 2013 is a frugal year, they go an get all crafty on us :rotfl:.
Keep smiling hun xxx0 -
Thanks Steph! I'm counting my blessings that it wasn't £800
Popping by quickly to add that today has been a NSD making 2 so far this month. XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Pay day from Mr A today
It's not fortunes but it helps! Also received this month's Healthy Start Vouchers worth £12.40 in the post today, plus £12 worth of Mr T Clubc@rd vouchers (which I will exchange for days out tokens or something to keep us entertained in the summer holidays).
Popped into Mr M's after the gym this morning so have gone over my £70 budget this weekbut that should be it until next week now. They are doing a scheme at the minute whereby if you spend more than £35 they give you a voucher, and if you get 3 vouchers over 3 consecutive weeks then you get £10 off your 4th £35 spend. We didn't spend £35 but the girl at the till gave me a voucher anyway after someone before me didn't want theirs! Will hang on to it incase I get one next week too
.
Making a TexMex bean chilli for tea tonight. Best batton down the hatches.

Yes MiT it's the one in the new mag. It was very tasty and filling but they used the word 'chilli' in it's loosest form! I had to add a lot more. DH had the same but I cooked some bacon and mixed it through his. It made masses though, normally when it says serves 4 that's only the case if you are feeding 4 children, but this time we will be eating it for days
.
What kind of veggie sausages did you have? I like the qu0rn ones. Yummy XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j
