my concern is that i will struggle to contribute, i have been independent soley for 7 years and have worked hard bringing up my boys.
my partner says he will pay the rent and council tax and we will work out the rest as and when. i will have a weekly income of approx 200. my shopping bill alone is 120 even when im being careful. my gas and electric cost around 35 a week.
You've got to stop thinking about "my" bills. If you become a couple, all the bills are "ours".
Look at the joint income and you'll see you've got plenty of money to go round.0 -
If it were me, I'd just sack off the partner and take the free money.[/QUOTE]
im bloody temtped. our lives at current are good ! when we live together we will both lose out. maybe not because we will be living together. he will be paying the rent/ctax and contributing to bills i will have to ask him for money for other things because mine wont even cover the basics ! ive never had to do this before ive always bought up my self and my kids.0 -
Don't forget that your benefits will start to reduce dramatically when your teenage children start to leave education/home.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

i have 3 teeneage children plus 2 cats. they all need lunches everyday. my eldest needs money to go to college on the bus, i do not get help for that. i also have to clothe and give them pocket money. it all adds up believe me. i do not live beyond my means and i save every penny when i can.
im simply stating that the benfit system is severly flawed. its sad to think i will be better off not living with my partner. we both work for family run businesses and we both work bloody hard!
also i won tbe gainin g27k, my partner earns that money he won tbe giving it straight to me will he.
oh well i hoped for help and all i got was .........well.........
I know someone in a similar situation - he lives in a shared house, his girlfriend is a single parent on benefits, they would love to move in together but there is no way they can afford it. He has financial commitments from before they met (car loan etc), and even with the saving in his rent etc they are considerably worse off living together. Pity as he gets on great with the kids. But they do spend lots of time together.
The Mills & Boon fans will be along soon to explain how you don't need any money if you have love:p
BTW don't let them put you off posting here for advice, there are people here who'll give you advice rather than judgement. There's a useful ignore list which you can add people to.0 -
i also agree that i probaly do get too much 'free' money. i earn 108 a week ish i get cb 150 ctc a week. 270 a month wtc and i get 80% of my housing paid and i only pay 120 a year ct. i am however getting what im entitled too.
maybe if they re thought the system i wouldnt be worrying about my partner living with me.0 -
With the help from tax credits, what is the difference?
None of you are losing out! you are better off! It's just you wont have that £1400 a month soley to yourself.
Get more hours and earn more money for yourself, then you will be raking it in with a huge combined income.
Seriously, you don't realise how lucky you are......0 -
also my current bills are very low.. i have my tv licence internet and gas and electric. this is because i dont live beyond my means.0

But surely you must have known this? Did you really think you would get to keep all your benefits when you moved in? Particularly as he is on a decent wage?
As other have said...your kids are getting older and you know will have someone else in the house to help with childcare pick-ups etc so there is no reason not to look for full time work. Then you will have lots of money again. Not sure of your age of kids but eventually all your benefits would have stopped anyway.
Be thankful its for a lovely reason as finding a life partner.0 -

Your partner can pay rent and bills and your money can be used for the kids, I strongly reccomend working more hours, you could be bringing in an extra £150 - £200 a week.0 -

And this will change how?
Look at it another way...instead of the Government giving you all that money, you now have a lovely man taking over the bills of the house. Sort out your contribution weekly and then you will know how much 'pin money' you have.0
