How to get out of paying TV license (yes, REALLY)

40p a day to fund the best broadcaster in the world: that sums up the UK TV licence for me.
I also pay a contribution each month on my Portuguese electricity bill to fund RTP, which carries adverts.
There is no comparison between the two broadcasters. Long may the licence fee and the BBC continue!!RIP independent MSE.

Who cares ? You have no option but to pay for your license and I'm very grateful for your (and anyone elses) contributions for my entertainment.
If you don't wish to pay, just stop watching TV and stop complaining !0 -
A friend of mine has no TV signal going into her home whatsoever. no sky, no freeview, nothing.
she watches programmes on iplayer etc and doesnt pay a TV licence. she has checked with the licensing people and as there is no signal going into her home she does not pay a licence.
she does have a TV but only watches DVDs on it.

You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
BBC licence was set up to fund building the structure of UK broadcasting, like Ofcom has done now to mobile companies with reduction in wholesale fees across mobile networks termination fees as the structure is built Ofcom should apply the same to the BBC....if the BBC's commercial arm raises enough for & out of international channels....WE should not be paying for it internationally, NONE of it ! & thus a reduction to a few pounds like a few pence mobile termination rates is wholelly in order.
Both mobile & tv are saturated markets and fully structured now, if its good enough for Ofcom the same regulator of both broadcasting & mobile regulation to do it to mobile market why should the BBC be treated differently....thats equality in both markets, moreso for non BBC channels to compete on fair levels.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... My old CRT is on the blink, the Sky box belongs in the Antiques Roadshow and the Satellite set up needs work. So I'm thinking of taking the TV to the tip. If I do I will let TVL know especially as I will not be watching TV as it is broadcast and will no longer need a licence. :T
I am however not about to pay someone to remove the Sky dish which is up on the roof. If TVL thinks that looks dodgy, it's their problem. I will genuinely not have a TV but I won't be bullied into letting some jobsworth inspect my home. They have no right and though it might make my life easier, sometimes you just have to stand up for a principle. Simples.0 -
BBC Worldwide uses any profits they make to expand their own empire

Ah yes the "empire" arguement.
The fact that their "empire" tends to offset the licence fee and let them continue making more programmes the commercial companies wouldn't dream of is nothing to do with.
Nor is the fact that their "empire" is largely about trying to get the best deal for the licence fee payer - for example why should the BBC pay a third party commercial company to sell the rights to it's programmes abroad, when by doing it under the BBC:WW umbrella it can keep the commission/fees that would otherwise being going to third parties and use it to make more programmes.
It's also a case of quite often the bits that BBC:WW does are complimentary to either BBC programmes, or other things.
Ignore me though, I've got some mysterious connection to the BBC (I've also got one to the water companies, British Gas, Royal Mail, the Police, the Magistrates/courts [funny how people from both sides of the last two have said about that] and a handful of others whenever I apply logic and facts in arguments).

For those that are whinging about the BBC license fee on this thread, don't bother as your views won't influence or win the debate !
I suggest that the whingers either voice their concerns to their local MPs or start an epetition on the egov website. Trouble is that this has already happened and started several years ago (with concerns to MPs) and the result; absolute nothing....people still pay for their license fee !
C'est la vie as they say and au revoir (or as good old Del Boy would say 'adegos' for those that don't think the license fee is worth the money !)0 -

Your arguments are usually that BBC Worldwide keeps the TV Licence down but as they spend millions each year buying more third parties that clearly isn't the case.
Oh and nice to see the BBC clique backNor is the fact that their "empire" is largely about trying to get the best deal for the licence fee payer - for example why should the BBC pay a third party commercial company to sell the rights to it's programmes abroad, when by doing it under the BBC:WW umbrella it can keep the commission/fees that would otherwise being going to third parties and use it to make more programmes.
Why should the BBC force monies from the British public saying their a PSB and then on the other hand act like a commercial broadcaster...................you can't have it both ways whilr (censored)ing the public for billionsIt's also a case of quite often the bits that BBC:WW does are complimentary to either BBC programmes, or other things.
No its so the can pretend to be PSB while acting commercialI've got some mysterious connection to the BBC.
For someone that spends so much time at DS defending the BBC, uses BBC pitches and now spending so much time here yes. As I've said before Joe Public wouldn't spend so much time defending any broadcaster and yet you are here all the time for the BBCFor those that are whinging about the BBC license fee on this thread, don't bother as your views won't influence or win the debate !I suggest that the whingers either voice their concerns to their local MPs or start an epetition on the egov website.
I'd rather just not pay it, that tends to annoy the hell out of the BBC and its friends0
