This is latest pest, complaints sent to Ofcom, TPS and Information Commissioner

I never gave them my number nor do I select sell my details to 3rd party as a rule someone has sold my details on to them or they obtained it illegally

  • a constant stream of chuggers who are no longer content with approaching passers-by in the high street.
we get regular calls from people knocking and asking "how are you today?"
they then try to persuade you to commit to regular giving by direct debit; a wide range of charities use them.
this is really giving me the hump and it has adversely affected my charitable giving; I now find it easier not to support ANY of the charities that approach me in this way and focus my charitable giving on a small nr of charities, all done online.

Since I moved in January I have been plagued by Jehovas Witnesses, I was rather stroppy with the last one so am hoping they will leave me alone. They are so thick skinned though I'm not so sure my plan will work.

When any salesmen ring my bell I answer the door and look them straight in the face and ask them "Are you Dislexic" the usual reply is no, so I point to the sign that says no cold callers and shut the door and shut the door on them - it seems to work as they never come back

We keep getting junk mail from Virgin Media. Over 6 years ago, a door-to-door sales man tricked my Dad (who'd had a stroke so and sometimes got words confused) into signing a form, claiming it simply proved the salesman actually doing his job to his bosses. In fact, this turned out to be a consent form changing our land line service provider from BT to Virgin Media. Over the next few weeks my Mum received phone calls and letters from Virgin Media 'welcoming their new customer', despite explaining it was unwanted and their repeated reassurances to stop receiving any more contact from them. This continued until I made a polite but firm phone call. Due to Virgin Media, my Dad wouldn't even answer phone calls from me, his carer, calling home. Yet despite being told when he died, they still sent junk mail addressed to my Dad for 2 years. I simply returned the envelopes and wrote on each one in thick black marker how they were incompetent and callous for chasing him, then his grieving family. They simply started sending me junk mail instead because I live at the same address... Any representative for Virgin Media should be ashamed of themselves.

I have never had any direct dealings with them but I am sick of the all too regular attempts they try by posting YET ANOTHER envelope offering their services. Usually addressed to the resident/occupier etc. I must get them about every couple of weeks sometimes. it just irritates me and its so counter productive if they think I will suddenly agree to sign up to them.

I tell the chuggers they have convinced me and I will contribute but on line cutting out their commission and their company's also so the charity gets more. I then thank them for bringing it to my attention.

I don't lie quite as much in my everyday life, only in these situations, I don't know why.

If I can't be bothered, say Judge Judy is on the telly and I'm missing it, I just say I already give via DD.

I live in flats so luckily we dont get cold callers much tho amazingly we do get spam leaflets for local pizza parlours etc. Dont know how they get in a restricted access building but. What I do get a lot of lately is the PPI or survey firms which seem to keep calling - ie 30 in 2 days approx the other weeks where they all said they had info someone had been in an accident (nobody here ever has). I am a member of the telephone preference service and am not sure how they are getting my number.
