We don't seem to get many cold callers round here but on the odd occasion when we do get a knock from an unwanted caller I enjoy closing the door as SLOWLY and gradually as possible whilst smiling and nodding enthusiastically. Probably makes me look like a nutter but the confusion on their faces is extremely satisfying...

NICOLA, SUSAN - both unpleasent/threatening, demanding money, calls at unsociable hours - no one at address has/wants account with company. warned, returned again and again.
Both drive new cars AX05XFC & EF07 BXE

For the person putting slips in - I need to look at the catalogue to see them, so that makes no difference whatsoever as I'm not interested and they just get chucked away. Anyone who has no consideration about my wishes gets no consideration from me about whether it costs them money or time to lose a catalogue.

Gosh darn it- I knew I should have taken those mind reading classes at school!! If I am not calling how do I know somebody does not want a brochure? I do not call at houses that have a no cold calling sign and I understand that it must be irritating that people do knock on your door if you have a no cold calling sign but I honestly never realised until reading this thread that people had to hand their manners in when they receive one of these signs.

Charities and JW's are the worst I've had. My charity worker said, 'It's OK, we've got permission to be in this area'. I told her that was completely irrelevant! The JW said he was not a cold caller. I told him that as he had come round uninvited and I didn't know him then he was. They seem to think that it only applies to people selling things.

I'm usually polite when I answer the door despite having two "no cold caller" signs up and a "no junk mail" sticker on the letter box. I don't get Avon, Kleenezee or Betterware any more but still get loads of fast food leaflets. If I'm impolite it's because I am busy or on the phone. I have been on crutches for a few weeks so it was difficult to answer the door for a while.

I'm at a loss to understand why the cold callers think that my signs don't apply to them.

To reiterate what others have said, in the case of Jehovah's Witnesses all you have to do is say something along the lines of "sorry I'm not interested - can I ask that you make a note not to call here again".

They'll make a note and you'll not hear from them again.
  • The JWs are the politest I've had calling at my door!

I think next time I get a cold caller I'm going to say, "ooh, really? Yes, I'm very interested, but excuse me a minute, I have something on the stove." Then just go upstairs and watch to see how long they last...
    Sum quod sum.

Well if they are so busy they shouldn't waste time knocking at my door
or not even leaving a card.

    Read what I wrote.

yes i read your post, hence the reply to your question

all meters have to be checked, hence they knock at your door if they need to. if you don't answer then they should always leave a card if they are not planning on trying again later. if they are not doing that then that is wrong

in terms of the general points of the thread, i don't see what people's problems are with catalogues, if you don't want it just post if back out of your letterbox so they can collect it, as i did to the betterware one yesterday. U don't even have to open ur door to do that! It's just people trying to earn themselve a few extra pounds. Would you prefer they were sat at home claiming benefits from the state? People knocking on doors that have no cold caller signs is wrong tho - as I pointed out to the chugger that called at my house ystrday evening

The problem is that they usually do not return for a few days so you either risk it getting soaked or blown away or you have to remember when it needs to go out. (Assuming you are reasonably considerate.)

This really isn't a problem for inconsiderate people as they can simply bin the catalogue.

Then again it's hardly a major problem for anyone but it would be nice if you could tell them, politely, that you are never going to buy from these catalogues so they could save everyone time by omitting you from their deliveries.
