I remember one woman asking for her catalogue back and I told her I had put it on the doorstep the day she said she was going to collect it. She was pretty annoyed because I couldn't give it to her but it turned out that another doorstep seller had collected her catalogue along with his own.

I started picking them up from my doormat and putting them outside without looking at them. I didn't care if they got soaked or blown away - it wasn't my problem.

Avon ignored the sign. When I pointed it out to the rep the response was "Oh - that doesn't apply to us".
Hi I've been an Avon rep for 30 years. They advised us ages ago that 'no cold callers' signs don't apply to us! Bizarre!

Why not put a sign on your doors saying this.

"ATTENTION, THE DOOR WILL NOT BE ANSWERED TO VISITORS TO THIS ADDRESS, WHO ARE NOT KNOWN PERSONALLY BY THE OCCUPIER, UNLESS YOU ARE A METER READER AND CAN SHOW A VALID IDENTITY CARD, PLEASE DO NOT KNOCK"
  • i find all charity collectors ignor the sign, but my biggest bug beare is johova whitness;s, now as they ask for monthly subscription to be a member of their religion, hen to me they are trying to sell just like any other trading company

If anyone says that to you get rid of them straight away, Jehovahs witnesses do definately not do that, first of all you don't just 'become a member' for a month, and secondly you do NOT pay a monthly subscription. So if someone has said that they are obviously con men pretending to be a witness to get money from you :s

EVEREST double glazing - and I was told I was rude because I pointed out the sign on the door.

Apparently they have had a managenent buyout and all is not what it once was. Their products were always no better than anyone elses despite their top of the tree claims and I now know salesmen who aren't being paid. Message to company, in my experience sales directors do not neccesarily make good businessmen!

I think the sign should include the wording "including Charities" as that is what I have had to add onto mine.

And, this is not because we are a tight 'bottom' family - we already have our chosen charities and my other half does loads of charity stuff through work (out of his own pocket).

They seem to think that they are exonerated.

My local police have a 'no door step callers' sign that states if they've not made an appointment they are not to knock.

So far so good, no unwelcome callers knocking on the door.

The sign has been referred to in my family as the 'don't knock and pi$$ off' stickers.

Safestyle just knocked despite my no cold callers sign, I pointed at the sign and got the "yeah, but I'm not selling" line.

He was really quite rude and aggresive and started arguing with me as to whether he was selling or not. He seemed to be unable to understand that a cold caller is not neccessarily a salesperson, but any uninvited visitor to my door.

Avon, Bettaware, Safestyle, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.

I honestly think they believe it themselves when they say "We're not selling anything...." It's plainly rubbish, but they will not have it!
