Sky - they are so ignorant that I will NEVER do business with them again this lifetime.

I work from home and have a dog. If I'm on the phone to a client and one of these idiots knocks the door, ignoring the sign, the dog goes wild and I have to make my customer wait whilst I tell the rude, ignorant !!! to **** off.

Just had 'Free Cavity Wall Insulation' (2 firms) ignoring the sign saying they're not 'selling' anything. I explained that it didn;t matter WHO Vpaid in the end (supposedly the Govt), if they came back again, I'd be more forceful.

    This thread is really informative.

It seems to me that maybe people may want to change their signs to read "No uninvited callers or representatives of any description may knock on this door, unless they are known personally to the occupant"

That way, there will be no ambiguity regarding "I'm not selling" or any other excuse.

And, when a caller does come, all the occupant needs to politely say is, "Please read the sign" and close the door.

    :)

I hope that is helpful to some of you poor people out there who keep getting harrassed.

A sign saying 'No cold callers' is sufficient it should cover everyone who is selling or not known to the householder this should include anyone who is uninvited

The problem is you get smart @rses who are trying to be clever by saying "oh I am not here to sell anything" then 10 minutes later after a boring chat they try and sell or come up with some phoney clap trap.

The only two words that should be uttered to these morons who think it doesn't apply to them is "Bog Off" nicely of course if you start entertaining any sort of conversation with them that is what they want before you know it there want to pretend they know you and have so much in common is a load of clap trap to get you to soften up

Unwanted door callers still knock, regardless of the no cold callers sign, whereas my sign leaves no doubt that they are not welcome and there is no room for discussion.

  • I have been known to say "Not interested" while shutting the door.
And then having to go into the back room for a while as they usually then stand looking through the front window

I didnt say they wont knock, I said it should be sufficient 'No cold callers' your sign will not work either the simple fact is many of them are unable to read, are stupid, need glasses or some how think it doesn't apply to them any way.

The more you have on a sign the more they less likely to read it, your sign will be just as bad as no cold signs

Gosh darn it- I knew I should have taken those mind reading classes at school!! If I am not calling how do I know somebody does not want a brochure? I do not call at houses that have a no cold calling sign and I understand that it must be irritating that people do knock on your door if you have a no cold calling sign but I honestly never realised until reading this thread that people had to hand their manners in when they receive one of these signs.

Er... I DO have a no cold callers sign - that is the point  If you would not leave a catalogue because I have one, then there isn't a problem is there? If you leave one ignoring the sign (plus the junk mail one), then you are not considering my wishes, so I won't consider yours.

I have perfect manners to people who respect my wishes, by ignoring my sign, you are showing your lack of manners!

I am another who has trouble walking and even though we live in a no cold calling area we are getting more and more PITAs knocking on the door.
Sunday night at 7pm we had a Woodland trust chugger on the doorstep who wouldn't take no for an answer and he kept saying but it is only £6.50 a month I pointed out to him that we are on a low income and that is a lot of money to us, he replied "but isn't looking after trees a worthwhile cause?" Errr NO at this point I just asked him to go and to give him is due he did.

In the last three months we have had Safestyle, Zenith, Everest, ( You have the old style double glazing could we interest you in a laughable quote?) Had one from Everest for £35,000 :eek:and zenith £32,000 :eek:for a 3 bed semi :mad::mad:: Why am I going to pay again for something that I already paid through the nose for 10 years ago, I wish I had kept my old wooden windows and old clanky boiler, much cheaper on the up keep and better made :(
    Then we have had Virgin
3 Insulation companies (It is obvious that we have cavity wall insulation to the naked eye),
Some Diddicoys wanting to do my drive "Only ten grand missus"
Another lot of diddicoys who wanted to replace my 5 year old guttering
A so called landscape gardener with a thick oirish accent who said he could do the garden cheap, because he could see the mobility scooter in the back garden :eek:that was unnerving until my big 6 foot body builder son came to the door :rotfl::rotfl:

    Water Aid
    Unicef
    Save the children
All of them get told that I only give to 3 charities that is the Sally Army, RNLI and Guide Dogs for the blind.
Overseas aid is paid for from my taxes

If a caller has no identity then report them to the police, I had one once and felt so guilty for reporting him when I found out that it was one of these young offenders trying to flog bits and bobs to try and get back on the right track without an identity card, but the police said that I did the right thing because they have to have permission from the police to operate in any area.

I am also sick of pizza, southern fried chicken, Chinese, Indian and Thai food leaflets, Taxi firms, charity bags from dubious sources, Avon, Kleeneze and Bettaware catalogues and being shoved through my door.
I told the Avon rep that not only am I allergic to most of their products, I refuse to buy from any company that has moved it's manufacturing, call centres etc. from here to any foreign country end of.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
