Spill the beans...on which firms ignore your 'no cold callers sign'

This is whats most annoying when you put notices up and they still ignore them there really is no excuse
Just because a charity employs a 3rd party does not and should not dissolve them of any responsibility.
They shouldn't be employing chuggers in first place its morally and ethically repugnant.
Chugging for me a is begging and no one should give there bank details to a perfect stranger even with ID which can be easily faked. I understand in your case there is mitigating circumstances, its poor show that they take advantage of a vulnerable person
Some charities have a lot to answer by employing chuggers and also how much money is taken for admin costs some charities pay a large proportion of there money on admin costsAfter a cold-call where my Downs Syndrome daughter was persuaded to take out a Standing Order for a cancer charity, I contacted the charity to complain that (a) there were 3 "No cold caller" signs on the front door and window, and (b) my daughter was clearly a special-needs adult and should not have been canvassed without another adult present. The charity were genuinely concerned about this incident, but their excuse was that they employ an agency to do door-to-door canvassing on their behalf, so can't control what happens. However, the canvasser was going to be severely reprimanded.
In reality, it seems these agencies often take on part-time students, who are not that bothered about t long-term job security, so are prepared to ignore notices, etc.
The cancer charity readily agreed to cancel the Standing Order.0 -

I disagree.
Provided that they behave properly it's perfectly acceptable.
I had been meaning to do something about making regular donations to both water aid and Amnesty for ages but had never got around to it. (This was before you could just visit an internet site and sign up.)
I was very happy that someone on Oxford Street (on both occasions as it happens) prompted me to do something about it and both charities have benefited for many years now. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
So you dont mind giving your personnel details to anyone then? You dont mind that a large part of that donation is then given to that 3rd party before any money the charity then receive? Its much easily donating directly
You should never give your bank details to anyone in street/home as I said ID can easily be faked your lucky in this case it didn't

They get no more details than people got every time you paid someone by cheque - which was much more common at the time.
Had it been as easy to set up a direct donation as it is now I would certainly have done so. And had I known at the time that the chuggers (that name had not yet been invented) and their companies took so much I would have made a point of searching out a form - eventually.
That does not alter the fact that charities find this method of fund raising effective. They should, however, pro-actively police the chugger's operations and have penalty clauses in their contracts with these companies that would make it uneconomic for them to break the rules. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
We get tons of cold callers/junk leaflets (how much takeaway can one family eat??)/charity bags in our road.
The moment you open the door and hear 'are you the homeowner' you know you're going to spend 5 minutes getting that person off your doorstep.
I didn't have that time last week when the latest woman opened with that line, so when she'd barely finished saying it I said (very politely I might add) 'I'm sorry but I'm not buying anything, signing anything, giving you my details, taking your details, and I'm not interested in any home improvements, thank you'
She looked at me, walked off whilst saying 'I wasn't trying to sell you anything', then very loudly said 'how rude'.
Why am I rude when they interrupted my evening? And, why on earth do they try and peddle the lie that they're not selling. They might not be doing it directly, but they bl**dy well are selling!
I also had a bank a few years ago ignore my truecall and press to connect. She interrupted our meal, and I asked if she was family or friend. She obviously said no, so I said well why did you press to say you were. She told me I was rude to have a machine that tells people I don't want to speak to them:rotfl:
The thing is, I'm very rarely rude to someone cold calling unless they really won't take no for an answer - I save that for the banks and their drongos, so it really irritates me when people say that!!Te audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
RSPCA - It was a few days before Christmas and I was making sweets.
As I opened the door both said 'Sorry I can see you are busy and I see your sign & I promise we're NOT trying to sell you anything' They then proceeded to ask me to agree to set up a DD to 'help the poor animals who are being mistreated' when I refused they said 'So you feel its OK for animals to be cruelly mistreated do you?'
My reply was something along the lines of 'No of course I dont, I feel its wrong for someone to knock on my door when there is a sign on it specifically telling them not to'.
They then had the cheek to tell me the sweets that they could see I was making looked delicious and could they have some? at the time I thought it odd that they knew what I was doing.
Later, I found out from my neighbour that they had been standing, watching me through my window for a few minutes prior to knocking on the door.
Will NEVER do anything for RSPCA after that.0 -
I don't know why people are mentioning JWs on here. If you tell them that you do not want them to call again then they don't - they put you on a list and they stick to it. (Pretty sure Mormons are the same, but I don't have so much experience with them.) But if you are hiding or climbing out of windows or talk to them then yes they will come back, because you haven't told them not to. It's just that they won't take hints because they think it means you can still be saved because you haven't closed your heart or whatever. (And telling them you're an atheist or you have another religion isn't enough because some of them like discussing religion and philosophy and if you don't tell them to go away they assume you do too.)
Does anyone really give to charities on the doorstep? The first time I got one of these I assumed he was scamming. I mean, who on earth knocks on people's doors at 9pm asking for money?0 -
Anglian Windows called and said that they had seen the sign but were NOT selling anything, they only wanted to ask a few questions about our property !!!"!!!!0
