Its not the amount I owe that gets me down, its knowing that the ex was right all along and I'm useless.

Take a look at your signature hun, all I see is the word PAID!!! You've taken this debt and stopped it in it's tracks. You've stood up to it and taken control. Being carp with money, as your ex would put it, is when you DON'T do any of the above. You've had a massive turnaround and you'll kick this debt's a$$ very soon!
  • I totally agree with Sue.

It is moving in the right direction now and thats all that counts. :j

  • Morning Sue, morning Hannah, you're right, thanks for the nice comments and sorry for the self pity :D

Its a year this week since my absolute came through and although I'm in a much happier place now than I was two and a half years ago, I could kick myself over how much money I've wasted in that time, but today is new day so no more dwelling on things I can't change!

I have to work today :( but instead of being miserable, I'm going to think of the double pay and day off in lieu :)

I came across a diary last night where the lady managed to get a tax rebate because she has to wear a uniform for work. I'm going to look into that on Tuesday, because I also wear a uniform and if I can get anything back from the Inland Revenue, that would be a nice bonus however small.

I'd better go and get organised, hoping today will be a NSD for me. ( the curry powder and stock cubes don't count because they'll be paid for out of our grocery budget. )

    Have a good day x

Hi, themull1, he is paying what he can afford at the moment. He is on a much lower wage than me and still has 4 years left to run on an IVA. He also helps support 2 of this 3 sons still living at home with his ex. This leaves him with hardly any money left at the end of the month. I know if he could he would pay for everything (not that I'd let him ) :)

I didn't mean it to sound harsh - sorry.

I wear a uniform at work and it was really easy to claim. Just write to HMRC and they sort it for you.

  • Mull - you didn't sound harsh at all, it was a good point and good advice which is why I'm here, all suggestions are very welcome :)

Thanks for that Sue, I'll get onto that tomorrow.

I didn't manage a NSD today after all. DS1 and his girlfriend turned up at my workplace while I was at lunch and I ended up buying us all a coffee which came to £5.00 (I have a loyalty card and one coffee was free so it wasn't too bad!). It could've been worse, at least they didn't want lunch :D

He then stung me for £5 worth of raffle tickets which means I spent £10 today

At least £5 of that was for a good cause, so maybe I'll get some karma points :D

I went a bit OTT with the shepherds pie tonight. I have about six portions ready to freeze and a dish of cooked mince, gravy and carrots that just needs potatoes added to it tomorrow. Its a good thing we all love shepherds pie cos we'll be eating it for weeks :rotfl::rotfl:

I bought some stock cubes from the local shop today and when I went to the counter to pay, the lady opened the box to check if they were all there. Apparently, someone keeps coming into the shop and pinching cubes out of the boxes and putting them back on the shelf!

Broke my glasses at work this morning, one of the arms came off. I found the screw, but don't have a screwdriver small enough to put it back, so I came home with a headache from staring at a screen with no glasses all afternoon. Luckily I have a spare pair at home. I have to go to town tomorrow to post some ebay parcels so I'll pop into the optician to see if he can fix them. I'm hoping he wont charge me!

I'm off for a lurk on other people's diaries now to see if I can pick up any more handy hints x

I'm trying to move on from beating myself up over past 'sins' so I spent the money and wasted a lot. Nought I can do about it now and dwelling on it only makes me feel down and then I want to spend to cheer myself up. Turns into a vicious circle and I'm trying to live in the now a bit more and focus on a positive future.

Glasses are a bloody pain, I always get the BOGOF pairs and just get wear the ones I prefer. I think in future I'm going to get 2 the same. At the moment I'm wearing my least favourite pair at home so not to wear the other set out. Hope the optician fixes them for you.

    Have a good day.

  • Morning

:rotfl: About the stock cubes. At least we're not that poor. Note to self: Stick at MSE diary or you may have to steal stock cubes!

  • Hello :wave::wave::wave:

I've had a productive MSE day off today for a change.

    Things I've done today:-

    1. Sorted out household and contents insurance which I got for £134 with the AA and which includes free breakdown cover for 12 months. I did this through a cashback site which is "supposed" to give me £38.38 cashback.

    2. Sorted out car insurance which I got for £30 less than I paid last year. This was also done through a cashback site which should earn me £25.00 cashback.

    3. Sold something on ebay for £92 :T:T:T and something for DS2 for £160 :T:T:T . They both paid straight away, so both items have been sent by special delivery this afternoon. Fingers crossed they're happy with the items. They should be because both were in "as new" condition and included extras.

    4. Went to see mum and dad and brought home a black bag full of winter clothes that need washing before the cold weather sets in. These are already in the machine and will be put on the horse to dry as they're in no hurry to get them back yet.

    5. Another set of bedding washed and dried outside. Thanks goodness the rain didn't arrive today like it was supposed to. That's 5 days without using the tumble :T I might make it my own little challenge to get to next payday on the 24th without using it at all.

    6. Finished off the shepherds pie which is now in the freezer.

    7. Came home from town without spending any extra pennies, which makes today another NSD (apart from the insurances and ebay postage which were already budgeted for). I usually can't resist calling into the bakers and buying a sneaky cake to have with a coffee in my parents house.

I haven't used these cashback sites to buy insurance before so I hope they pay out. This cashback (if and when it arrives) will be paid off my Debenhams account, because I'm hoping Ne*t will be gone in the next month.

I'm off now to make some chicken curry for tea (plus extra to freeze :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:).

Back later, hope you all had a good day x

  • Curry made, dished out and in the freezer.

BF and I had curry for tea, and I've kept back three portions for tomorrow night. DS2 and DS3 will be here for tea tomorrow (BF will be out) so that's their dinner taken care of.

Just checked my cashback account and one of the insurances I sorted this morning is already showing, just need the other one to track now.

    Back to work tomorrow :(

Only two more days to work in August and nine to work in September till I have 10 days off :T:T

Can't wait, its been a long summer :D
