Royal Mail doing all they can to damage themselves?

The Royal Mail has capped the number of stamps that shops can buy before price rises come into force later this month, leading to accusations of profiteering.

The postal service said it has limited shops' supplies in a bid to prevent retailers from profiting at its expense from the hike in stamp prices that comes into force on April 30.

The Royal Mail wants instead to ensure that it benefits from the price rises, which will see the price of first-class stamps increasing by 30% from 46p to 60p from 30 April, and second-class stamps rising by 39% from 36p to 50p.
I truly believe this company feels as if it's owed something. Sure, none of us want to see the Royal Mail go under. But they will see other business struggle to keep them going with the cost of the increases.

Now, they decide to stop people buying stamps today, at todays price, in order that they make the most amount of profit later!

Is the company really trying to make the public turn their backs on them? It seems hell bent on alienating itself from its customers.

I was so sure you would post a positive headline at some point this week.

    I guess I underestimated you.

I hope they change the design or colour of the unpriced stamps, so everybody will know who's still posting letters at the old price in 2014, instead of paying their fair whack like everybody else.

I reckon it's those baby boomers, who are not only VI's stealing money off hard working families with their BTL empires, but are now being bulls by buying up all the stamps now.

They'll soon be found out when the props are removed, including the 480 pw benefit cap comes in and interest rates go back up to normal levels, and that the value of their stamps will crash 50% by December 2012. That'll teach the debt junkies for being liars and thieves.

I think that's everything covered. Oh yes - buy silver.

It wouldn't bother me. Some proper company would move in and take their business. As it is, we're paying the cost of the postmen layabouts' inflated pensions.

id check your facts on this if i were you, the reason for the deficit is the tory government took a 17 year contribution holiday in the 80's and 90's because the fund was in massive surplus. Postmen were stil paying there contributions while the employer wasn't, and its no longer a final salary scheme and the retirement age will rise with state pension age. much more reforms than the public sector are kicking and screaming over.

if you want to know why stamps are going up its being fattened up for privitisation in 2014

What? No mention of EU 'competition' regulations? Talk about a one-sided view!

In our new zombie-economy, saving- in any form- is now considered unpatrioitic and economically damaging.

    And that includes stamps now.

On my list of things to do is to see how to transfer all our invoicing and reports to email without too much manual intervention.

When I get round to it, thats probably 60 stamps a month they're going to lose, and I'm sure I can't be the only one.
