I found my hubby to be on https://www.speeddating.co.uk or something like that :) only ever went on one speed date for a giggle but spotted this handsome scottish chaps profile and decided I liked the look of him... 7 months later I had moved in, and 2 years on we are engaged... Wedding date set for may 2008 ;)

    Good luck!

I've dabbled with internet dating and have been on a few dates, one of which ended up in a relationship. That ended in disaster when I discovered that he was registered on virtually every site and was contacting several people a day.

So you do have to be careful but I am sure there are some genuine guys on those sites. My word of advice is to stay away from those who use sites such as "girlsdateforfree", "loopylove" and "faceparty" as they really are full of pervs. It's worth taking note of the guys that appear on all the sites and are always "active within 24 hours/online now" and then avoiding like the plague!

Datingdirect seems to attract the more 'genuine' people, in my opinion. If I was to go back to online dating, I would choose DatingDirect.

Good luck in your search and let us know how you get on!

  • Hey everyone,
I tried match.com and Dating Direct but found that most of the people weren't paying members so they couldnt read or reply to my messages.

I've been to a few Speed dating events with the Single Solution. I thought they were really well run and lots of fun - even had a few dates after ;)

They have also just launched a really cool looking website where you can do online dating with no months fees. You just pay for each message you want to send. I got some free credits for registerting so I'm just playing around with it at the moment. Seems pretty good though.

    Anyone else on there?

Not a direct dating website but I met my boyfriend on https://www.faceparty.com

I registered to just meet new friends and to chat to new people. I got talking to Steve as we both loved Plymouth Argyle. We spoke over the summer and then in August the season started and we decided to meet at half time just for a chat.

Nearly 2 years on were happy, have a baby bird together (trust me its like having a child) and practically live together (I havent stayed at home for a long long time...).

So yeah, maybe try some other sites like faceparty were you just meet people. Remember you meet people in the weirdest of places!

That's a bit of a sweeping statement! I've found the opposite, I am on quite a few sites, but the women are just out to mess the men around, i.e keeping in touch for a while, then using the excuss that I have a child that lives with me to be "friends".

I'm starting to get quite disheartend by the whole thing.

  • How much is match.com? There ought to be a free site where you can just meet people. But I guess the paid sites do background checks?

Match.com is about £70 for 6 months, don't believe the six months free offer if you don't meet anyone the T and C's make it hard to fulfill the critera for the offer.

They do not do anything but allow you to post your profile and the e-mail other people - no back ground checks etc - but then none of them do that as far as I know!

I would avoid match, as a female I found that they men were either:

    * completely shallow but yet professing to be really open minded to meeting new people for a fulfilling relationship, ( in other words you must be blond, size 12, and not want any committment, be a sex goddess and cook like Nigella)

    * be completely in to extreme sports, I am no couch potatoe but god who does really ski, surf, run, sail, trek, climb and dive - every single week!

    * some have lived at home all of their lives with their moms

    * Yes some are married

    * some just want a shag ( excuse my language )

    * if you do make it to a conversation or even a date, can't seem to verbally communicate, even though they all say the are great talkers or they stalk you ( not in a you need to call the police but still turning up whenever they want is bad )

    * Lots are registered on every site going

    * Lots start off really interested and then just fade away

This of course is only my opinion, and match automatically renewed my membership after 6 months, so it cost me £140 ish to not really meet anyone who was really serious about actually finding a new partner.

But hey it does work for some, just be opened minded, do it for a laugh, don't think that it is the answer to finding someone.
