I know what you mean. When I was with Dating Direct I had loads of dates - no one ever looked anything like their picture and one person even admitted that it was his mates picture he had used.
It does seem to work for lots of people so I thought I'd give it another stab - no harm in it really is there.Lydia

I have found udate - a branch of match .com to be good too - met my current man on there!0

I met my girlfriend 18 months ago on jdate (jewish dating) and we're very happy, bought a house together .... so i see the 6 months or so I was paying fees of 20 quid a month as a sound investment for my future0

I'm starting to get quite disheartend by the whole thing.
Yes, it may seem to be a sweeping statement but unfortunately it has been my experience. I started online dating with an optimistic view and an open-mind. I am sure that some of the sites are filled with genuine (and genuinely single), honest guys but they are very hard to find amongst all of the married men and players. I still like to think that I could find someone nice through online dating but my previous experience has left me rather cautious!
I'm certainly not totally dismissive of it but I DO think that certain websites attract 'certain' types, both male and female! Faceparty, for instance, is full of people who post naked photos of themselves! In my opinion, any site that allows 'adult' photos is setting a low (and sleazy) standard and unfortunately for those who only post decent photos, it can end up tarring them with the same brush. So the sites that ban 'adult' photos (eg, match) end up being far more reputable.
Hey, perhaps we should start an MSE singles board?!

Yes, I think this is quite common! I hate to admit this but I sometimes watch a programme on the wedding channel called 'e-love' and it's interesting to see how different people look from their photos. One lady had used a photo from years ago and had changed so much. Sadly for her, the man she met wasn't impressed and wasn't interested in persuing it after they had met. His reason....that she didn't look like her photo!
You're right though, it does work for lots of people so it's worth giving it another stab.0 -
I have just found a site called https://www.theplacetodate.com only just registered on there and there isn't a huge number of people on the site yet but it is completely free.
I was on match.com for quite a while and didn't think much of the site as you couldn't see who was a currently paid up member which meant you never knew if your messages had even been read.0 -
I have used Dating Direct but after about 2 years have given up.
datingdirect is one of the better sites IMO
udate is ok
match is ok
there's millions of others, mysinglefriend, ivorytowers, friendsreunited etc etc
All work along similar methods too; free to join but you have to pay before being able to send messages.* be completely in to extreme sports, I am no couch potatoe but god who does really ski, surf, run, sail, trek, climb and dive - every single week!* Lots start off really interested and then just fade awayHappy chappy0 -
I'm enjoying this thread as I am just back from a lovely holiday and down to earth with a bump! I definitely need to find myself an utterly gorgeous boyfriend soon
I remember my mum used to go to 'singles clubs'. Do such things still exist? I have tried to look them up on the internet but I think living in Cornwall means that you dont have the same access to these things as the rest of the country.:(0 -
Still haven't got round to getting a good picture on Friends reunited dating. Tried to get my friend to take some over the weekend but had a spot on my chin so have decided to wait til I look half decent!
