I never tip my hairdresser. It cost a fortune for the cut. I do feel a bit tight sometimes - he's very good and does my son's hair too. He also doesn't charge either of full price as well. I really can't afford to tip on top of the price - if I did - I'd have to go fewer times and he would lose out in the long run. That said, I always buy him a birthday and christmas present to show my appreciation. Also, he's pretty straightforward - if he had anything to say he let me know. He tells me what haircut I can and can't have and what he won't do to it ( ie chemical straightening because it will ruin it )
  • My cut costs #25 & its done by one of the co-owners - I usually leave #1 for her & 50p for the junior hair washer - doesn't sound a lot but I only work part-time myself

I never used to tip, but I've finally found a hairdresser that I like. I normally pay her about 25 pounds for cut and blow dry and leave 2-3 pounds tip, depending on how generous I'm feeling!

I pay £39 for a cut - I consider that quite a lot so I don't feel the inclination to tip.

I did get full highlights done a while ago and it took about 2.5 hours - they underestimated the time and the hairdresser had to stay later than she expected - the price was around £80 but I tipped £5 because I appreciated how long it had taken her.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

    I had a complete re-style last week.

I've gone from having hair just above my elbows, to hair just above my shoulders.
I had re-style, with blow dry and it cost me £23.50, i gave her £25 and told her to keep the change.
She did a fantastic job and i have booked another appointment in around six weeks for a trim.

I took with me a magazine that i had seen some hairstyles in, we looked through them and she advised me what would and wouldn't suit me.
Very happy with the end result.

I'm afraid I never tip my hairdresser, good though she is. I believe that the salon I go to employs the stylists on a self employed basis, and she receives a cut (no pun intended) of the £44 I pay.

I do sometimes feel a bit stingy, but, tbh, I feel that giving £2 is a bit of an insult, and I can't afford a fiver!!

    Just my 2p....

I pay £8 for a dry cut and she does a super job. £2 tip
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me
  • I get a wash, cut and blow dry every 6 months or so (I hate going to the hairdressers :()
Last time it was about £18 so I gave her a £2 tip. I would never tip anyone more than 10% of the total bill, and definately not if its overpriced in the first place

I used to be a hairdresser and we were paid a pittance of the salon's profits  hairdressing is a profession that tipping is expected and makes up sometimes half the wage,as this is known by the tax office, when it came to paying tax we would have to put down our tips as income,if we didn't put anything down it was thought we were being fraudulent.Things have probably changed now,but remember next time when getting your hair done, that your stylist could get taxed on her tips even if he/she doesn't get any.
I would also like to add, that a hairdresser charging £50 for a cut,is most of the time,no better than a hairdresser charging a fiver for a cut,you are paying for the name and the posh surroundings.I pay £12 for a wash and cut once every 3 months.
