    Is this the stockpiling thread?

Right rather than moan about prices I'm doing what the Americans do and stockpiling things when on special offer, or basics that wont go down in price. I'm aiming for 3 months supply. DH agreed to it so we are clearing out a kitchen cupboard that usually stores glasses and dishes used rarely. That will be moved up to the dining room. I only started this week and so far I have

    4kgs oats (Tesco value)
2 boxes Asda Sunbisk weetabix equivalent (75p for 36)
    2kg rice (Tesco value)
    12 cans tinned tomatoes
    12 cans kidney beans
    1 box dried milk
    1 pk doves farm yeast
    1 bag wholemeal bread flour
2 bags Tesco value plain flour
    1 bag granulated sugar
3 boxes Daisy washing powder (35 wash box is now 30 wash and was reduced to £1.40 a box)

Toiletries are kept on a shelf of their own in a bedroom cupboard and so far I have

4 tubes Signal toothpaste (99p for 2 in box, 99p store)
3 bottles shampoo (Tesco own brand, apple was down to 56p recently now back up to 99p)
    3 bottles conditioner

All these are kept separate from our usual grocery items. Payday is a week on Friday, will be keeping an eye out for bargains and making a list of things to buy. I want to have a balanced stockpile, and be able to make meals from what we have.

If anyone has any tips/advice/constructive criticism please feel free. :-)

i buy branded whitening toothpaste and shampoo when it is on BOGOF dont see why i should pay full price - i usually have a couple of each in storage and when i open a new pack and have only one in reserve i start looking for a new bogof offer as i am paying half price and it will get used!!

i have a good store cupbord of basics like tinned toms and beans as they can be used to base cheap quick meals and will be looking for persil offers in my next few shopping trips as i am down to under 1/2 a pack and will keep it hapily in the spare room if it saves me a bit.

occasionally its worth looking at offers as sometimes a bogof on veg eg: carrots works out cheeper than my usual bag of value carrots.

I only tend to 'stock up' when its on BOGOF or at silly reductions,if its a real bargain I buy 6 of the item each week while its on offer (tesco offers generally last 4 weeks)that usually then lasts us til next time its on offer;)
I was horrified today in Tescos at some of the price rises

Think I saw an advert for Persil liquid on offer at Asda the other day. Seemed like a good price.

A rather interesting thread. If I had the room, I would like to stockpile properly but space doesnt allow. My food cupboards are in a bit of a mess so once the stuff is eaten, it would be nice to at least store things in a more organised fashion!

I did buy 9 tubes of toothpaste the other day as they were 3 for 2 and a good price to begin with.

I also have enough toiletries to sink a battleship! Money wasted over the years but at least I have a good stockpile - just need to use it up! Its nice though when you find something and you think, oh I forgot about that, that will do nicely be it food or shower gel! Its almost like having your owns supermarket but everything is free!

yes prices do creep up in tesco. one of the yogurts I buy from them has gone up 20 pence not 2 pence but TWENTY PENCE. thats a price of increase of just over 22%! how can they justify that? Why do supermarkets thing that just because the prices to start with are tens of pence that they can increase the price by stupid percentages
  • I'm still living in hope that Tesco prices will go down to where they were in November....I'm starting to come to the conclusion it might be wishful thinking....

At least this gives me an excuse why I have 7 tins of chopped toms in cupboard (much to OH's dismay) and I seem to buy at least two a week lol. I keep telling him them they are cheap and can be used in all sorts of things, I rattled out my list last night

    Chilli
    Pasta bake
    Spag bol
    Curry
    Stews
    Soups

Anyone want to add to my list to back up my argument to dp ... I could make a week of meals with those tins lol

PS piglet don't hold your breath hun
