Buying in bulk / stockpiling ....is it really worth it?

Sorry if this has been mentioned earlier, I haven't had time to look through all the posts. But what about fresh fruit and veg? Is it okay to stock up on tins and do without fresh? We get through loads of fruit in a week and are now going to have to cut back expenses. Veg isn't too bad as we use frozen as well as fresh but fruit
is my biggest concern.
Also, Is it worth paying out to join Costco and bulk buying?
Hi EstherH,
I do think that joining Cosco for bulk buying is worth it.
I usually buy Braising steak and then cut it at home and freeze it by portions of 2. I think it is cheaper than in the shop (small packet, best price buy 2 for £5 when on offer in comparison to 3-4 two persons meals from Cosco for £6)
Also whole half of samon for under £10 - feeds easily 5 people for just salmon and potatoes and big piece left over for pasta/gnochi style of dish
I also love their pork loins.. (£8-10 for 4 loins, each feeding 2-3 people)
But mainly, I do think that it is good quality meat.0 -
Thanks Any, I have someone that I can occasionally go with, but it is occasional and I never feel free to browse properly and weigh it all up. That's why I was wondering about paying out for my own card. I'v heard that toilet rolls are good there. Only ever buy the bettabuy ones so don't know how they would compare in price. I have heard that the meat is better than supermarket for quality.Second purse £101/100
Third purse. £500 Saving for Christmas 2014

Ooh to have the choice of where you can go to do your bulk shopping! My nearest Costco is Glasgow or Edinburgh, a mere 8 hour journey away including a 3 hour ferry crossing and only around 250 miles to travel
Saying that I do buy things in bulk from Lidl and Aldi when I'm away with the car - some things I freeze, others are shelf stable, so they're okay on the shelves.
I could get a whole lamb each year, but I don't like the flavour of it, so I pass on that0 -

Costco's 'own brand' do 40-odd rolls of loo paper for about £14. It's good quality too.0 -

I find Costco fruit & veg is very expensive  and you can buy cheaper by shopping around. Asian shops are much cheaper for large bags of onions, etc.
Whenever we are planning to go to Costco I try to note supermarket prices beforehand so I can see if I'm genuinly making a saving, rather than getting carried away with the excitement of bulk buying:rotfl:"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Haven't eaten the stuff properly since I was a teenager. I do try it every once in a while, just to remind myself that I don't like the flavour, and I don't!0 -
