. I keep a couple of gallons of water and water purifying tablets in stock since huge parts of Glos lost water supply in the floods last year.
Hi Rosieben, could you tell me where you purchase water purifying tablets from, please. TIAGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Hi Kath, I got my tablets online from Whipperleys, here's the direct link (bottom of the page). There are other options if you google 'water purifying', or you should be able to get them from a camping equipment shop.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I try to keep a month's stock "in hand" so that I can miss a month's shopping if necessary.
I also buy large amounts when things are reduced (10 Tesco bread flour the other day when it finally went back to its old price).
BUT I would only recommend serious stockpiling as a way of being money saving or dealing with a crisis if you have already paid your debts and have a little stash of cash.
I carelessly managed to lose ALL our money in the Icesave debacle last year (it came back after just over two months) but it really was all the money that we had. Now on the upside we did have enough food to eat but that doesn't pay for bus fare, car tax & tyres and all of the other things that have to be paid for.
So stockpiling & bulk buying is good but in a crisis cash is pretty useful to have around as well.Piglet

Sorry if this has been mentioned earlier, I haven't had time to look through all the posts. But what about fresh fruit and veg? Is it okay to stock up on tins and do without fresh? We get through loads of fruit in a week and are now going to have to cut back expenses. Veg isn't too bad as we use frozen as well as fresh but fruit
is my biggest concern.
Also, Is it worth paying out to join Costco and bulk buying?Second purse £101/100

Esther, I know tinned fruit counts towards your 5-a-day.
I think a lot of the vitamins get lost though.
Still, never bad to have a stack of tinned fruit?GC March Wk1 £28.72/£30 Wk2 £28.4/£29

We keep tinned and dried fruit, IMO it's fine and it's better than not having any fruit.Piglet

Absolutely right yes, Pitlane, I always forget to say this when I'm in full 'store cupboard evangelist' moodbut paying off debts should be a priority, and also building up a little spare cash in a separate account or money box or something (I favour a money box because there are no reliable atm's within about a 5 mile radius and I have no car)

Back again...flamin' internet!!
Tiff /Rosieben you are so naughty  spent much of the morning working out how to put my house on stilts so I can have a storeroom like that :rotfl:
Although we have always been in debt I have never got into 'more' by keeping a storecupboard.I have a set budget per week which I stick to and incorporate £5-£10 of this for food storage
In fact when things were REALLY dire pre MSE and when OH was out on strike I was so grateful to not have to spend anything on shopping!
I often have just a 'fruit and veg' week and in summer this is even cheaper due to the stuff we grow in the garden.
p.s
*bounty has changed its name to plenty and is currently on specialI've only just freed the loft space from the last batch*:rotfl:
