So will all self employed people have to earn minimum wage now then? That minimum wage legislation is being changed too is it to take account of that?
I just hope they catch a cold by pushing up the unemployment figures which is all it will do. So it shifts people from tax credits to job seekers and income support. Very clever. Not.
Self employed will only be asumed to earn minimum wage if they claim benefits.
How will unemployment go up?
I thought there were plenty of jobs for those that wanted one0 -

I am sure those that can no longer claim tax credits as self employed will go onto job seekers allowance and this will bolster the unemployment figures. Those people may well be entitled to top ups beyond job seekers so basically it's paying the same money but under a different name while pushing up unemployment figures.0 -

No you would be better of claiming WTC than JSA. Why do you think people do it?
But there are loads of jobs..................0 -

Currently self employed people getting working tax credit can count the hidden non earning part towards their hours such as their administration, travel time, meetings. So will all those things have to be charged at minimum wage? You will be charging yourself minimum wage for doing your letters book keeping travelling etc etc. Cameron madness at its best that is.
I am astonished that a government that is allegedly trying to get people to work is prohibiting self employment thought this course. Yet Tory governments have always been for business and self starters.0 -
instead of trying to sway the topic your way just admit you were wrong in your earlier post and save some face.
Your clearly clutching at straws.0 -

I am not wrong. Currently you can claim working tax credit if you are self employed. That is a matter of fact as time exists now. I have been nowhere wrong and only served to assist the opening poster with ideas on how to improve her situation which incidentally have received thanks. This is unlike you with your barrages of negative verbiage and self opinionated, patronising dross about people scamming a system. If you want to go do that poke off to discussion time and pedal your spitefulness there.0 -
i live in a valley in south wales there are no cleaning /ironing jobs or even bar jobs for that matter im asking for help off people not people arguing making out that we are to lazy to find a further 8 hours to help us still keep my job, my partner as done is best an so have i, ive asked for advice on what to do not for people to critisize what we are doing wrong we know that we need to find 8 hours weather its me or my partner but there are no 8 hour or more jobs that we can apply for. we dont live in a city or town we live in a valley which employment is very low much lower than cities an towns.
I wasnt calling you lazy. It's just a job isnt going to come and find you, you need to be looking for yourself. i was simply saying that with all the hours your partner isnt in collage/uni you can be very flexable in what jobs you do.
do you drive? Can you travel? There must be a city close to you. if there isnt any jobs what's he going to do when he qualifies?
which valley do you live? Im in wales also. i may be able to offer some advice if i know which area you are.Faced up to my debt Jan 2012.0 -

Say you knit or crochet things and sell them on eBay or something. I just checked the tax credits website about self employment and you'll be surprised at what counts towards your "hours" such as visits to wholesalers! Cleaning your premisis. You could easily suck up eight hours. And it would take eight hours to knit a pair of crochet slippers each week to sell on eBay.
Remember also that self employed people are not entitled to national minimum wage so even if you earned 1p per week self employed you are not breaking any law that I can see.

like you said, your not sure how it works,0 -
As someone has already said you simply can't leave your job of your own accord and claim benefits, they suspend any entitlement for 26 weeks and you will then be living off fresh air.0
