Accused of shoplifting in one of supermarkets when actually paid for everything.

poet123, just basically told what I wrote here, demanding this in writing as I found the gate thing and volunteering very interesting points. Duty manager refused to write anything as I contacted headoffice and head office were dealing with it. I said that I actually contacted him, too and he could bother and reply. Asked him to ask headoffice to pass his comments and explanation and I will request the shop's comments from head office, too. I have just emailed the security company which was mentioned over the phone checking if they really provide the service to the branch. If they do, I will complain directly to guard because of these two lies. This bloke always looked strange to me, he always targert harmless looking women walking on their own. I have never seem him to challenge a big bloke or a group of young people.0

I understand how you feel and I would be returning the £10 gift voucher as well.
What on earth made him think you had not paid for the meatballs in the first place that he would check a copy print out? Very strange!!
I once had a member of staff stop me because my son had picked up a 'free' bag with leaflets and a bottle of water in, on the way out. She came running after us and took it away from him saying it was only one per person and we already had one and in a very nasty tone,(is he not a person then?) I was so embarrassed but when I got home I telephoned the HO. The lady was really lovely and said "I bet it made you feel that you do not want to shop there again".She even asked me to describe the person that stopped us.
They rang me back most apologetic and said that they had spoken to the store manager and had asked him to make sure in the staff training that this sort of thing does not happen again.
They also sent a voucher 'for my son'.0 -
Seems like a storm in a teacup to me.
Now there's talk of the security staff targeting the weak. Hard to take it seriously tbh.
If you don't like their response, don't spend your money there. They've not harmed you in anyway so there really is nothing more to pursue. It's clear they don't care also, so why your wasting your time is beyond me.0 -
Hi POPPYOSCAR, nice to see you on my thread, your thread on mortgage free wannabe was one of my favourite ones I was reading to help me to motivate on the mortgage free journey. The mortgage free thread is one of my most favourite where I spend lots of time reading people's diaries.0

arcon5, I agree it is a storm in a cup. It could have been easily avoided though by local branch sending an apology in writing: ''We are sorry that happened, that was a human mistake, please don't be put off from using our shop again'' or something similar. What is going on with customer service standards in this country?0

I think you have me mixed up with someone else. I do not have such a thread.
Sounds good though.0 -
I would say compensation is a good bet, to be dragged in and accused of theft publicly in front of your own community I would say warrants compensation and an apology in the local newspaper.
Slander is compensable.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

surely if you received such a letter it could be used against them in a conpensation claim?
im afraid you wouldnt get anything in writing off me if i asked you to accompany me to the cream puff counter and asked to look in your bag
all in the best possible taste of course0 -

OP. Next time it happens, just continue walking. The security guards have absolutely no power to stop you unless they actually witness selection and concealment.
If they do physically detain you when you have done nothing then at a minimum then it is an assault. If you are assaulted call the police.0
