Accused of shoplifting in one of supermarkets when actually paid for everything.

Or how about going to the same store again and picking up some goods from the fish counter. A few minutes later you decide that you don't want the fish, by which time you are in the aisle that sells microwaves. Not having time to return it to a refrigerated section, you place it in one of the microwaves
(or behind a roll of toilet tissue) :rotfl:. Of course I wouldn't want to suggest that anybody would REALLY do something like that ...
The microwaves are probably already full from all the other idiot customers that do that
It really annoys me when I see things like bottles of milk sat on shelves because people haven't been bothered to walk that few extra meters to put in a fridge.0 -

They are famous for it, they even took a juvenile through Leeds court for having shopping on him in the store, the police should have know better as well.
the case went all the way to trial and was slung out by the magistrates who then "ordered" the shop staff, the police and the CPS to stay behind for a bollocking of a lifetime from the Clark of the courtHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I would not be upset if it was a 30 second 'can I check your reciept'.
This situation sounds like it could have taken a while and a good deal more stressfull. I think an apology would be in order.0 -

Did they actually accuse you? Or did they say something like "we need to check that you have paid for your goods" ?
They would usually be very careful about making an accusation in case it was groundless as in your case
If they accused you, then more is justified, IMHO.
If they told you they needed to check, then £10 for your time and inconvenience sounds reasonableYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
A few people mentioned that it may have been a 30 seconds experience, no it was not, it was more involved and embarassing. Attitude of staff who were not listening to what I was saying and were overzealous and being escorted by three members of staff to the cashier where I paid in front of hundreds of people was not nice. I shopped in this shop for over 6 years, I live locally, my kids go to local school, I may have been seen by people who know me.I wanted some clarification from the shop where security guard got the copy of my receipt. He already approached me with the receipt in his hand saying meatballs do not show on the receipt. After that I took a receipt from my purse and handed it to him and it was exactly the same as his, only his was saying ''reprint'' on it. The meatballs were in fact not showing on the receipt, they were showing as ''reduced items'' as they were reduced. I explained to him and other members of staff, that these items were handed to me by cashier first and that should be clearly seen on the CCTV in the shop. My biggest concern is where did he take the copy of receipt to challenge me. I did not go too far out the shop, was nowhere near the gates and nothing beeped. Was he following me? Did he request it from cashier after I left? I feel like I was targeted for some reason but I do not understand this reason.0

Just wondering did all of this take place on the shop floor in front of other customers or were you taken to a private room?
If you were publicly humiliated I can understand your upset, but you've had your apology from HO and a voucher that you can either choose to use/give away/send back or whatever else you choose to do with it.
As others have said vote with your feet and don't shop there again.
If it was either over in seconds (a quick check of the receipt) or you were taken somewhere private then I don't quite see how that can be humiliating and taking any further action is unnecessary and uncalled for.
ETA: Sorry you posted while I was typing0 -
blossomhill asked if I was actually accused of shoplifting or they asked to check. Well, I think it was something in between the two mentioned words. As I was approached by the guard with receipt saying : ''Meatballs do not show on receipt'' to me it basically says ''You took the meatballs''.0
