but you said meatballs were not on the receipt as they showed as reduced.
How was the security guard to know that?

The reason you were stopped was because they believed you hadnt paid for an item. On checking your receipt it was found you had paid.

What do you want them to do?
Give you more vouchers or print an apology in the local press?

Just forget it and move on

Oh dear, how dare those security staff do their job. I mean, they'd better !!!!! foot around and not disturb anybody, especially not suspected thieves, lest people be offended.

What the !!!! do people expect really? Staff had grounds to suspect you didn't pay, you proved otherwise, and on you go.

If they get too scared to challenge people, then all the actual thieves will get away. This is mind boggling, it really is. It's like the country has descended into children. Where's the stoic stiff upper lip we're famous for?

In my experience, you are giving security staff far too much credit.

    I've been Money Tipped!
A few people mentioned that it may have been a 30 seconds experience, no it was not, it was more involved and embarassing. Attitude of staff who were not listening to what I was saying and were overzealous and being escorted by three members of staff to the cashier where I paid in front of hundreds of people was not nice. I shopped in this shop for over 6 years, I live locally, my kids go to local school, I may have been seen by people who know me.I wanted some clarification from the shop where security guard got the copy of my receipt. He already approached me with the receipt in his hand saying meatballs do not show on the receipt. After that I took a receipt from my purse and handed it to him and it was exactly the same as his, only his was saying ''reprint'' on it. The meatballs were in fact not showing on the receipt, they were showing as ''reduced items'' as they were reduced. I explained to him and other members of staff, that these items were handed to me by cashier first and that should be clearly seen on the CCTV in the shop. My biggest concern is where did he take the copy of receipt to challenge me. I did not go too far out the shop, was nowhere near the gates and nothing beeped. Was he following me? Did he request it from cashier after I left? I feel like I was targeted for some reason but I do not understand this reason.

This should have taken only 30 seconds. They should be able to understand the reciept. Lack of training or honest mistake, they should have quietly pulled you aside and not put you on display at the cashpoint. Thats just humiliation.

They are human, the police also make mistakes, as do the CPS. Do you think everyone who is prosecuted and found not guilty deserves a grovelling apology? Should prosecuting lawyers be made to make grovelling apologies when people are found innocent?

Being found not guilty doesn't necessarily mean you are in fact not guilty;)

I agree that it is a joke OP. This supermarket has the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

What I find extraordinary is their measly compensation offer, especially when they make LOTS of profit, give away lots of FREE shopping (win your shopping with the codes on the receipts) to random shoppers, rather than properly compensate those who have a problem with their store.

Terrible attitude, not surprising given where their head office is. Horrible city, horrible people, horrible supermarket.

The best thing you can do OP is to never ever shop there again and tell all your friends the same. Word is mouth is the best way to either make or break a company. Make sure you break them.

If you want to chase this, dig out your old receipts or bank statement and tell them how much money you've spent with them over the past 6 months. Then reel off their profits, and the amount of money they gave away with their promotions.

I'd ignore some of the replies you have had, if it had happened to me or my wife I would have been extremely angry.

I would suggest you visit the store with your husband and have a chat with the store manager. Explain to him/her what a humiliating experience it was and see what he has to say.

Personally I would expect a written apology and at least £50 in COMPENSATION, yes I said the C word.

If you was man handled in any way I would even suggest talking to the police and seeing a solicitor.
