And to have a fully featured dialer, you need to purchase a 3rd party app.

Could you please elaborate? I'm not familiar with WP, but I'm considering this as a low cost introduction to smartphones for my fairly technophobic wife. I figured that WP would be an easier, simpler interface than Android.

You can also get free Monster iems http://www.nokiamonsteroffer.co.uk/

    and free £20 of apps

To be honest, these phones aren't selling and Nokia is desperate to shift stock so it is a good deal for £100, particularly as the phone has a good, Corning glass display and is well-specced.

Nokia likely will go bust before the end of next year

    They are almost identical:

Re unlocking, Lumia is almost definitely not locked at CPW and is definitely unlocked at other CPW companies: Nokia Lumia 710 unlocked @ Mobiles.co.uk (£10 top up required) £99.90

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

You are more likely to find a needle in a haystack. Radar was discontinued, and Orange had a fire sale on these handsets a few weeks ago a part of a clearance.

Good deal if you got one. Gutted because I almost had two on the first day they were reduced (even the staff didn't know they were reduced). Stupidly I decided against them because I wasn't sure how easily they could be unlocked.

Bought two Lumia 710 last week and they are a dream. Wipes the floor with the Android, and makes iOS look long in the tooth.

Between the Lumia and Radar, I'd go for the Lumia for longevity. I like HTC devices, the Titan II in the US is reportedly the best WP device for hardware (top notch camera etc) if not the prettiest thing around (I've never used one as HTC don't want to launch it in the UK due to low sales of the original Titan here). However, as you move across to the WP eco-system, you will begin to realise the scale of Nokia's investment into it and exclusive "partnership" with Microsoft, means other manufacturers (HTC, Samsung, LG etc) are left playing second fiddle.

Nokia are getting a lot of App developers to release apps on an exclusive basis to Nokia customers (usually for a period of time lasting from 1 month to 6 months) before they become available to the wider WP marketplace. Nokia are also releasing a lot of apps themselves, that make the Lumia line better value. Add to this the fact that Nokia are supporting Windows Phone 100%, and sales of Lumia devices are through the roof in general, whereas sales of HTC's WP devices have been pretty flat on both sides of the Atlantic, means HTC are not overly interested in supporting the OS at present - which means a lack of support for devices. Nokia are more pro-active with updates to firmware etc, and the likelyhood of seeing Tango on the Radar, especially on Orange, is remote.

The only company that has thus far vowed to beat Nokia & Microsoft's partnership in the Windows Phone sector, is Samsung... who interestingly seem concerned by Google's acquisition of Motorola and intent on making inroads into the WP market (they just launched a new WP7 device despite announcing earlier on in the year they'd wait for WP8, and announced even before the SIII was launched, that there would be a WP8 variant of it).

If you're going to go Windows Phone at this point, I'd say Nokia are the best way to go, with Samsung a possible consideration in the future. HTC have completely lost focus about who they are as a company, and where they want to go in the future.

If you do opt for the Radar though, it has better battery life than the 710 (supposedly), in which case it would be awesome, but does not feature Gorilla glass or Nokia Clearblack technology of course. But the handset itself will most likely be a solidly built and reliable piece of kit (my HTC has literally taken a battering over the past 2.5 years, and still works perfect), if you can put up with Nokia owners getting exclusive access to "some" popular apps, then it's a good device to go for.

My daughter's contract comes to an end this month. She may want an iPhone but this is what's she's getting. A good compromise methinks.
The compromise is that it's not an iPhone - it's a Windows phone; it may have similar features but it won't do the iPhone apps & won't link in to iTunes.
