Cyclists not using hand signals

obviously? Im a driver and a cyclist
however all i see on this thread is what cyclists do
so by the same logic, the drivers in this thread must follow the same path.
my chip as you put it,comes from real life, daily experiences
I have 20+ years of driving experience to go with it.
now have you still got your tar brush out?
I think you will find that in my comments I have used the word 'some' thus meaning I don't tar everyone with the same brush. And your 'logic' is wrong. I suppose it must be dependent on where you live then because where I live, i see every night kids riding around the main road without lights sometimes 3 or 4 a breast, riding the wrong way around the round-a-bout outside my house on a dual carriageway and riding against the flow of traffic in a near by narrow one-way street. None of these things I have seen motorists do, so obviously your 'daily experiences' are fairly limited by the sound of it.
P.S. I've got an extra 13 years driving experience.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

Jesus! If they are riding a bike, in my book they are a cyclist. But don't worry, I won't tar most adult cyclists with my paint brush.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

well which is it? are you differentiating?
I rarely see young unacompanied cyclists on the roads when im on the bike.
I see them round my house scooting about on their bikes.0 -

Proves my point then. depends on where you live. My window overlooks a busy 'A' road junction which has a round-a-bout in it. I have counted 22 youths over the last half an hour who have ridden illegally using the junction, (mainly for failing to give way) Non of them are accompanied (not that I thought that was a requirement anyway).
During the same period, I didn't observe any motorists who were apparently breaking the law. However, I did see some old biddy a few months ago driving the wrong way around the island if that makes you feel happier!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. well I cross a whole city.
you could be seeing the very same group over and over again0 -

Possibly. There is a skate board park near by. But in any event, that same group (if you are right) are breaking the law over and over again. And by the way, they still do the same at night without so much as a milk bottle top for a reflector between them. Which kind of shoots your 'logic' down in flames because i don't see that many motorists driving around without lights a night.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. well for starters
lights are part of the regualtions for the manufacture and supply of a vehicle.
so short of them remoing them, why wouldnt they have lights?
you are just coming out with the same old lines.
here in Edinburgh we have bike Police who do enfoce laws on cyclists, though as with most things
its a small part of the entire Police budget.
now what does other cyclists not having lights have to do with me?
my main front light costs more than many folks pay for their bikes.
as I have said before,my bike far exceeeds any required minimum.0 -
difficult? no
expensive,yes
until its a legal requirement then its unlikely to happen bar niche products.
margins are tight on bikes.
Shimano are already into their 2nd year f electric groupsets on bikes
we already have modern hub dynams with capaciters
however any indicator product is IME expensive and poorly implemented
Like lights after dark and stopping at red lights are a legal requirement?I presume you mean a legal requirement at manufacture though.

Well perhaps bikes should come fitted with lights then. I didn't say that motorists hadn't got lights, I meant I havn't seen that many with them switched off.you are just coming out with the same old lines.
Not really because you may regard it as 'same old lines' but where live at least, it's an current and expanding issue. Not that it bothers me personally because non of the cyclists who put themselves in real danger (and possibly their parent's as well for not ensuring their 'precious ones' have adequate lighting) are known to me.here in Edinburgh we have bike Police who do enfoce laws on cyclists, though as with most things

Well perhaps the police where I live should do more but unfortunately the issue dosn't seem to matter until an accident occurs. One did a couple of years ago when a cyclist was seriously injured while riding through a red light (without lights) late at night after being hit by delivery van.now what does other cyclists not having lights have to do with me?

i don't think anyone has knocked you for that and I for one take my hat off to you for it. But you seem to be suggesting that motorists are as much as a problem to cyclists as some cyclists are to themselves. Sorry, no matter which way you paint it, I will never agree with you fully on that one. There are too many cyclist who do not take the same responsibilities when it comes to safety as you obviously do.
I think we will leave it at that now.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
